Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has challenged Raheem Sterling to consistently perform well and prove that Gareth Southgate was wrong to reject him from the England team.

Raheem Sterling played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s resounding victory, contributing to all four goals. This impressive performance came after Chelsea initially fell behind against Burnley.

A Veteran’s Resurgence

Sterling, boasting an impressive 82 caps for England, has recently found himself out of the national team picture.

His last appearance for England was at the World Cup the previous year, and he has now been omitted from the squad for a fourth consecutive time, missing out on a friendly with Australia and a Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy.

Proving His Worth

Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s manager, believes that Sterling, with his wealth of experience, understands the importance of showcasing his talents.

Pochettino emphasized that Sterling needs to perform consistently and demonstrate to the national team manager that he made an erroneous decision in omitting him from the squad.

Performance is Key

According to Pochettino, Sterling’s path back to the national team hinges on his performances and goal-scoring ability.

Only through tangible contributions on the pitch can he prove that he deserves a place in the national team and show that the manager’s decision to leave him out was unwarranted.

Sterling’s performance and contributions on the field not only benefit Chelsea but also serve as his best avenue to regain a spot in the England national team and continue representing his country on the international stage.
