Introduction

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the COP28 President-designate and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, delivered a powerful message at the start of crucial pre-COP talks in Abu Dhabi.

He called for global unity and collective action to combat the pressing climate crisis ahead of the much-anticipated climate conference in Dubai, only weeks away.

Unite for Climate Action

In his address, Dr. Al Jaber stressed the imperative of global cooperation, emphasizing that there are “too many things dividing our world at this moment.”

He underscored the need for nations to come together to tackle climate change, which knows no borders and affects all of humanity.

Unprecedented Participation

The pre-COP talks in Abu Dhabi witnessed remarkable participation, with more than 100 delegations and around 70 ministers in attendance.

This turnout was noted as a significant increase compared to previous events, indicating growing global interest and concern for the climate crisis.

The 1.5ºC Goal

Dr. Al Jaber reaffirmed the global commitment to the 1.5-degree Celsius target outlined in the 2015 Paris Agreement.

This goal is critical in preventing the most severe consequences of global warming. He urged the international community to work together to ensure that this target remains within reach.

Conclusion

As the world gears up for COP28 in Dubai, the message from Dr. Sultan Al Jaber is clear: the time for action is now. The world must unite, set aside divisions, and work collectively to address the climate crisis.

The upcoming climate conference holds the potential to send a strong signal to the world that meaningful steps are being taken to combat climate change and safeguard the planet’s future.
