Nepal experienced a devastating earthquake in the western region of Jajarkot, resulting in the loss of at least 128 lives and numerous injuries.
The earthquake struck on Friday at 11:47 PM local time and ranged from 5.6 to 6.4, depending on different sources. Tremors were felt as far away as New Delhi, India.
Echoes of the 2015 Tragedy:

This earthquake marks one of the deadliest in Nepal since the catastrophic events of 2015, when approximately 9,000 lives were lost in two powerful earthquakes.
These earlier disasters left towns, ancient temples, and historical sites in ruins, causing significant damage to the nation’s economy.
Uncertainty Surrounding Casualties:
Officials expressed concerns that the death toll from this recent quake could rise as they struggled to establish contact in the hilly and remote area near the epicenter.
The epicenter was located approximately 500 kilometers (300 miles) west of the capital, Kathmandu, with a population of 190,000 residing in scattered villages.
Impact on Jajarkot and Rukum West Districts:
The earthquake primarily affected Jajarkot and neighboring Rukum West districts in the Karnali province.
Reports indicated that 92 people lost their lives in Jajarkot, while 36 perished in Rukum West. Additionally, at least 85 individuals sustained injuries in Rukum West and 55 in Jajarkot.
Rescue and Relief Operations Underway:
Search and rescue teams are working diligently to clear roads clogged by landslides triggered by the earthquake to reach the affected areas.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has arrived in the region with an army medical team to oversee search, rescue, and relief efforts.
He voiced deep sorrow over the loss of life and property, emphasizing the urgency of immediate rescue and relief operations.
Residents Forced to Seek Safety Outdoors:
Many homes have collapsed, while others have developed cracks, leaving thousands of residents too terrified to remain indoors.
Aftershocks continue to pose a threat, compelling people to spend the night outside in open areas.
Videos and images from the affected areas depict crumbled facades of multi-storied brick houses, with large pieces of furniture strewn about.
Terrified residents can be seen evacuating buildings and seeking safety in the streets.
