A Growing Passion for Ice Hockey in Dubai

Despite its unconventional nature in a warm-weather destination, ice hockey is capturing the hearts of locals and expatriates alike. The sport offers a distinctive winter experience, adding a surprising twist to Dubai’s vibrant array of activities. Visitors can now enjoy thrilling hockey matches every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 8:30 PM at the Dubai Mall Ice Rink or Al Ain Ice Rink. For a complete game schedule, visit Game Schedule.
Emirates Ice Hockey League’s New Season
The 2024/2025 Emirates Ice Hockey League (EIHL) season commenced on October 1 with an exciting opener led by the Dubai Mighty Camels, a team synonymous with hockey excellence in the Middle East. Established nearly 20 years ago, the Camels have become a beacon of professional hockey in the region, inspiring a new generation of local players.
Vladimir Burdun’s Vision for UAE Hockey
Vladimir Burdun, Founder and CEO of Emirates Sports Group and Chairman of the Dubai Mighty Camels, has been instrumental in the sport’s development. His visionary leadership has transformed hockey from a niche activity into a professional league, with aspirations to create a regional hockey league encompassing the Middle East and Asia.
“Hockey in the Middle East is not just a sport; it is a symbol of the region’s transformation,” said Burdun. “We are proud to foster a new hockey culture, attracting global talent and setting trends in international sports.”
The Evolution of Hockey in the UAE
What began as informal games by expatriates has evolved into a thriving professional sport. The Dubai Mighty Camels, established in 1994, paved the way for organized hockey in the region. Since the formation of the EIHL in 2009, hockey has grown into a structured and competitive league, featuring six teams and nurturing local talent.

Achievements of the UAE National Hockey Team
The UAE National Hockey Team has made remarkable strides on the international stage, securing three World Championship titles and a third-place finish in Division 2A at the 2023 World Championship. These accomplishments highlight the UAE’s commitment to excelling in winter sports.
Launch of the First Professional Ice Rink in the Middle East
In a groundbreaking development, Emirates Sports Group will soon unveil the region’s first professional ice rink in Dubai Sports City. Set to open in early 2025, this Olympic-sized facility will enhance the region’s winter sports infrastructure, hosting hockey games, figure skating, curling, and more.
