The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) in the UAE is set to launch a new system called Akeed.
This system aims to enable private sector companies to access accurate data about residents directly from the ICP database without card readers.
It was showcased at the Gitex Global Technology Exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Centre from October 16 to 20, 2023.
Key Features of the Akeed System:
- Akeed will eliminate the requirement for card readers to source information from the ICP database.
- Firms in finance, healthcare, and insurance sectors will be able to access the correct information they need about residents, including names, passport details, and insurance policies.
- The service will particularly benefit healthcare providers, ensuring they have accurate and up-to-date information.
- Akeed will streamline data retrieval for companies, save time for individuals and organizations and offer convenience for accessing resident data.
Availability and Pricing:
- Akeed is expected to be launched later in 2023 or the following year.
- It is unclear whether the service will be offered free of charge or if companies will be required to pay a fee.
ICP’s Smart Initiatives:
- The ICP introduced several smart initiatives at Gitex Global, including the Akeed system.
- They are working on a project to install kiosks at prime locations across the country, such as airports and malls, allowing UAE nationals and residents to renew their passports and Emirates IDs instantly. This will offer convenience and 24/7 accessibility for these services.
- The Smart Land Borders Crossing system will enable citizens and residents to cross the Al Ghuwaifat border without leaving their vehicles. Motorists can use this system if their cars are registered under their names, streamlining the border crossing process.
The introduction of the Akeed system and other smart initiatives by the ICP demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to enhancing services and leveraging technology to improve efficiency and convenience for residents and businesses.
