Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid chairs Cabinet meeting, announces plans for labour ministry restructuring
In a recent announcement, Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid revealed that the UAE has taken decisive action against drug-related activities by shutting down 160,000 websites and social media accounts. The crackdown, led by the Digital Quality of Life Council, underscores the government’s commitment to combating illicit substances and protecting the nation’s youth.
During a meeting of the UAE Cabinet at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of safeguarding children, describing them as the country’s most valuable assets. He called upon families, schools, and the media to join efforts in shielding the younger generation from the dangers of drugs and illicit activities.
The Prime Minister did not specify the timeframe during which the rogue websites and accounts were closed, but highlighted the collaborative efforts between the council and social media companies in executing the crackdown.
In addition to addressing the issue of drug-related activities, Sheikh Mohammed announced plans to restructure the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation to enhance the competitiveness of the labour market. Emphasizing the significance of the workforce in driving economic growth, he underscored the importance of protecting employees’ rights and ensuring their well-being.
Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation by unveiling a national policy for the distribution and production of biofuels. This initiative aligns with the country’s efforts to transition towards clean, sustainable, and low-carbon energy sources, contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.
Moreover, the Cabinet approved an amendment to federal regulations governing citizenship and passports, extending the validity period of the Emirati passport from five to 10 years for individuals aged 21 and above. This decision aims to streamline administrative processes and enhance the convenience for Emirati citizens traveling abroad.
As the UAE continues its efforts to bolster security, promote economic development, and prioritize sustainability, Sheikh Mohammed’s announcements underscore the government’s proactive approach to addressing pressing issues and advancing the nation’s goals.
