Help will be distributed to Sudanese refugees displaced by the battle in their motherland, which has been fuming since April.
Aid Mission Unveiled
The UAE has dispatched a plane carrying 100 tonnes of essential food supplies to South Sudan through the World Food Programme, marking a significant step in its ongoing humanitarian support for the nation’s refugees.
This initiative, reported by state news agency Wam, aims to aid Sudanese refugees displaced by the ongoing conflict in their homeland, a crisis that has persisted since April.
UAE’s Humanitarian Commitment
Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development Affairs and International Organisations, Sultan Al Shamsi, highlighted this recent shipment as part of the UAE’s continuous endeavors to provide crucial assistance to Sudan.
This effort aligns with the UAE’s robust humanitarian drive, dedicated to aiding nations facing significant challenges.
Escalating Crisis and Displacement
The conflict in Sudan has led to the displacement of approximately 300,000 individuals, adding to the distressing tally of over six million people forced from their homes since the conflict erupted in Khartoum.
The UN has reported a sense of urgency and desperation among the displaced, prompting many to flee on foot, seeking refuge from the unrest.
Previous Aid Endeavors
In a steadfast show of support, the UAE had earlier established an air bridge to Sudan and Chad, channeling vital food and medical supplies to the most vulnerable groups.
Notably, this initiative has seen the delivery of 8,810 tonnes of aid through 133 flights and a ship transporting around 1,000 tonnes of urgent relief materials.
Rehabilitation and Healthcare Efforts
Beyond material aid, the UAE has undertaken significant rehabilitation efforts, renovating schools and establishing a field hospital in Amdjarass.
The hospital, operating under the guidance of President Sheikh Mohamed, has rendered medical care to thousands of Sudanese refugees since its inception in July, reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to alleviating the plight of those affected by the conflict.
