Trump and DeSantis Lock Horns at Florida GOP Event

Former President Donald Trump didn't hold back during a GOP event in their home state of Florida, taunting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

During a GOP event in their home state of Florida, former President Donald Trump didn’t hold back as he taunted Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, labeling him a “wounded falling bird.”

Trump, who once endorsed DeSantis, claimed credit for the governor’s rise to popularity during his 2018 gubernatorial campaign.

Trump’s Critique of DeSantis:

Speaking at the Florida Republican Party’s Freedom Summit, Trump expressed his belief that DeSantis’ presidential bid is disloyal and criticized his performance in the polls.

He referred to recent polls that indicate a significant lead for Trump in the 2024 race and noted that DeSantis is trailing by 27 percentage points.

Trump has not shied away from attacking DeSantis, giving him various derogatory nicknames.

Despite being considered Trump’s strongest challenger for the GOP nomination, DeSantis has faced criticism from the former president.

DeSantis’ Response:

DeSantis, who spoke earlier at the event, subtly criticized Trump but did not mention his name.

He focused on his conservative achievements in Florida, suggesting that the GOP needs to move beyond Florida, as the party’s brand is seen as “toxic” in many other places.

DeSantis emphasized the importance of his track record in Tallahassee as proof of his conservative credentials.

The Duel Continues:

The political rivalry between Trump and DeSantis shows no sign of diminishing, with both leaders vying for influence in the Republican party.

As they exchange barbs and jockey for position, their interactions will likely continue to shape the future of the GOP, particularly in the run-up to the 2024 election.
