The Journey of Amr Hisham: From Nervous Open Mics to a Big Break

Amr Hisham

Amr Hisham’s path to musical success was not paved overnight. Like many aspiring musicians, he started small, performing at open mic nights, facing challenges, and battling nerves. Today, he’s not only gaining recognition for his solo music but is also a member of the growing alternative rock band, Redaround. Here’s a look at his inspiring journey that’s full of persistence, challenges, and remarkable achievements.

The Big Moment: A Dream Opportunity

Amr’s musical journey took a huge leap forward one fateful night at Buffalo Wings and Rings during an open mic session. He and his band, Redaround, were performing their set when a talent acquisition approached him with an unbelievable opportunity – a chance to perform at the Wasla Music Festival. Set to open for some of the biggest names in the Arab music scene, such as Cairokee and Mashrou3 Leila, this was the break Amr had been waiting for.

“This moment changed everything for me,” Amr recalls. “We had played at various venues and universities before, but nothing compared to this. Performing in front of huge crowds, opening for such iconic bands – it was surreal.” The opportunity didn’t end there. After their incredible performance, they were invited back to perform at the second edition of the festival, a true testament to the hard work and dedication that Redaround and Amr had put into their music.

Amr Hisham: A Natural Love for Music

Amr’s love for music didn’t come from a single moment of inspiration – it was a part of him from the very beginning. “Honestly, I feel like music chose me,” he admits. “Ever since I was a kid, I loved listening to music, and that love only grew stronger over time. Singing out loud turned into recording videos, and that’s when I realized I might have something special.”

Though music has always been a passion, Amr was patient. “I knew music wasn’t going to be my full-time job right away. But one day, I believe it will be. It’s a big dream, and it takes time.” His journey was all about consistency, improvement, and following his heart. Little by little, his singing skills grew, and his musical vision began to take shape.

The Milestone: Headlining the Fridge Concert Series

In October 2023, Amr and Redaround reached a huge milestone in their musical career – they headlined their first ticketed show, the Fridge Concert Series. It was an unforgettable night. For the first time, Amr saw 100+ people gather specifically for his performance. Fans, friends, and family came together to support the band, making it one of the proudest moments of his career.

“To see people come out just for us, to hear our music – that was everything,” Amr says. “It was a reminder of how far we’ve come. This was a major achievement for me personally, and for Redaround.”

The Early Struggles: Building Confidence

Amr’s rise to the stage wasn’t without its struggles. Like many new artists, he faced a range of challenges, from stage fright to crowd interaction. “When I first started performing, I was so nervous,” he recalls. “I remember my first show. I was wearing a formal blazer, holding my phone with a shaky hand, and I could barely get the words out.”

But as the years went on, Amr found his rhythm. “With every performance, I became more confident. I memorized my lyrics, learned how to engage with the crowd, and I started singing louder. It became a habit, and my fear started to fade. That’s when I knew I was doing something right.”

Focusing on Solo Success

While Redaround continues to thrive, Amr is also making waves with his solo career. “I’ve released about five singles towards the end of 2024, and they’ve received a great amount of attention,” he shares. “It’s been amazing to see the support from my fans. The engagement and views I’m getting on these singles is proof that I’m heading in the right direction.”

For Amr, balancing both his solo and band projects is no small feat, but he’s determined to pursue both. “I want to see where this takes me. Both Redaround and my solo music are equally important to me.”

The Importance of Self-Belief

While Amr acknowledges the support of his family and friends, he’s quick to say that his most important source of inspiration is himself. “I don’t focus on other people’s opinions. I believe that in order to succeed, you have to trust yourself. You know your own capabilities better than anyone else.”

Having grown up in a supportive household, Amr thanks his father, mother, and close friends for their unwavering belief in him. “But at the end of the day, you have to rely on yourself,” he adds. “If you truly believe in your dreams and your passion, that’s all that matters. You’re your best motivator.”

Overcoming Challenges with Stubbornness

Amr’s journey hasn’t been smooth sailing – but he’s learned to embrace every challenge along the way. “When I was younger, I was always kind and easygoing. But that didn’t always work out for me,” he admits. “So, I became more stubborn. Stubbornness became my defense mechanism. It helps me push forward, even when things get tough.”

This attitude has been crucial in helping Amr chase his dreams. “I’ve had my share of tough crowds, technical issues on stage, and other minor problems. But I’ve never let them stop me. I’ve learned to trust the process and accept that both good and bad days are part of the journey.”

The Future: Aiming for Full-Time Music

Amr’s vision is clear – he wants to be a full-time musician. “Success for me has always meant achieving my dream of being a popular musician who gets to do what he loves every day. That’s the ultimate goal. I’m working harder than ever to make it happen.”

But more than fame or fortune, Amr wants to be remembered for his character. “If I’m remembered as one of the greatest singers in the Arab region and as part of Redaround, that would be an honor. But more importantly, I want to be remembered as someone who took care of his family, someone who did what was right, and someone who never gave up on his dreams.”

Words of Wisdom: Trust Yourself and Never Stop

As Amr continues to carve out his space in the music world, his message to aspiring musicians is simple yet powerful: “Don’t be afraid to go after what you want. Trust in your abilities, and don’t listen to negativity. If you have a vision, stick to it. Work hard and trust the process. You’re meant to be a star.”

For Amr, music isn’t just a career – it’s a lifelong passion. And as he works towards making it his full-time job, his journey is sure to inspire countless others to follow their dreams, no matter the challenges they face. Do follow him on Instagram.
