Small Plane Crashes on North Carolina Highway, Occupants Survive

A single-engine Diamond DA-40 crashed on Interstate 26 at Asheville Regional Airport in western North Carolina, creating a dramatic sight.

A dramatic scene unfolded as a single-engine Diamond DA-40 crashed on Interstate 26 near Asheville Regional Airport in western North Carolina. 

The incident occurred around 8:15 pm, with the plane catching fire upon impact. Despite the intensity of the crash and subsequent flames, the two individuals on board managed to escape with injuries that were fortunately not life-threatening.

Collision and Emergency Response:

As per reports from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the plane struck power lines above I-26, causing one wing to collide with a passing tractor-trailer. 

The collision resulted in the plane being engulfed in flames, causing damage to the truck. Remarkably, the truck driver emerged unharmed from the incident.

Impact on Traffic and Infrastructure:

The crash’s aftermath led to the highway’s closure in both directions on Friday morning. Duke Power workers were mobilized to repair the power lines affected by the crash, causing disruptions to traffic flow in the area, as the North Carolina Department of Transportation reported.

Investigative Procedures Initiated:

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are set to conduct thorough investigations into the crash.
