Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua Crowned Miss Universe 2023

Sheynnis Palacios, 23, made history as the first-ever Miss Universe winner from Nicaragua at the 72nd edition of the pageant held in El Salvador. 

Palacios received the crown and sash from her predecessor, R’Bonney Gabriel of the United States, marking a significant milestone for Nicaragua in the pageant’s history.

Top Three and Competition Highlights:

Palacios secured the title among 84 contestants, with Thailand’s Antonia Porsild and Australia’s Moraya Wilson in the top three. 

The competition, spanning a week, encompassed various segments, including swimsuits, evening gowns, and traditional dress showcases.

Palacios’ Message on Gender Equality:

During the final question to the jury, Palacios highlighted the imperative of equal pay regardless of gender, advocating for women’s unrestricted opportunities across all fields. 

Her powerful statement resonated with the theme of limitless possibilities for women.

Momentous Occurrences and Diversity:

Pakistan marked its Miss Universe debut with Erica Robin as its representative, showcasing a move toward global inclusivity and diversity. 

Additionally, Maria Camila Avella Montañez from Colombia and Michelle Cohn from Guatemala made history as the first married contestants and mothers in Miss Universe history.

Future Edition Announcement:

The gala, graced by the presence of El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, revealed that the upcoming edition of Miss Universe will be hosted in Mexico, continuing the pageant’s legacy of grandeur and international representation.
