For Shereen Ahmed, the power of words was evident from a young age. Reading The Diary of Anne Frank was her first spark of inspiration, leading her to start journaling and later explore poetry and storytelling. By the age of 10, she had already set her heart on a future in writing.
Her dreams soon became a reality as she immersed herself in the media industry. What started with writing gradually led her to discover her own voice, ultimately paving the way for a successful career as a TV presenter. But Shereen’s ambitions didn’t stop there—she wanted her platform to be about more than just storytelling. She saw an opportunity to create real change, and that’s exactly what she did.
Overcoming Challenges and Building a Career in Media
Shereen’s professional journey began at the age of 15. Faced with restrictions on financial independence, she took matters into her own hands and started modeling. Her career took off, leading her to work in TV commercials, runway shows, and print campaigns across the GCC.
Determined to expand her horizons, Shereen pursued a degree in Journalism and Media at Middlesex University Dubai. During her final year, she landed an internship at Lovin Dubai, which soon turned into a full-time role. In 2020 she was leading the position of editor in chief at LocalBH, Just at the age of 25 Over the next two years, she navigated the fast-paced world of digital media, overcoming the challenges of self-doubt and constantly evolving industry trends.
In both modeling and journalism, she faced stereotypes and skepticism—intelligence was often questioned in the modeling industry, while digital media was still finding its footing in 2017. But she persevered, proving that resilience and passion could break down any barriers.
Hope Amal Bahrain: A Mission Close to Her Heart
In January 2024, Shereen launched Hope Amal Bahrain, a community platform dedicated to supporting single mothers. This initiative is deeply personal to her, as she was raised by a single mother herself. Witnessing the struggles her mother faced instilled in her a strong desire to give back to others in similar situations.
Her commitment to this cause was further reinforced by the passing of a dear friend who had once benefited from a similar platform Hope Amel UAE. This heartbreaking loss motivated her to take action and create a space where single mothers could receive support, guidance, and essential aid.
Since its launch, Hope Amal Bahrain has already helped dozens of women, and by April 2024, the organization aims to have provided assistance to 100 mothers. Shereen’s vision is clear: no single mother should feel alone or unsupported.
Breaking Age Barriers in Pageantry
Shereen made history as Miss Universe Bahrain 2024, using the platform to champion social causes and inspire women to chase their dreams. What makes her win even more significant is that she competed at 30—breaking the previous age limit of 28.
Her success is proof that dreams have no expiration date. Through her reign, she continues to use her voice to encourage women to believe in themselves, no matter their age or background.
Lessons in Confidence and Self-Worth
Reflecting on her journey, Shereen emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and resilience. One of the greatest lessons she has learned is that knowing yourself is the key to overcoming challenges.
She believes that people will always have opinions that may make one question their worth, but true strength comes from within. By setting clear boundaries, negotiating with confidence, and investing in personal growth, she has built a career and a life centered around empowerment and service.
Her advice to others? “Know your worth. Set clear boundaries early, and invest in therapy sooner rather than later—it will keep personal challenges from interfering with your career down the line.”
