Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun Takes Historic Etihad Rail Journey from Abu Dhabi to Dubai

In a significant development for the UAE’s transportation sector, Major General Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan embarked on a momentous journey aboard Etihad Rail’s prototype passenger train. Accompanied by a delegation from the Ministry of Defence, Sheikh Ahmed experienced the state-of-the-art rail service, traveling from Al Faya to Al Qudra in Dubai.

The journey marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing progress of the UAE National Railway Network, showcasing the advancements made since its inauguration. Led by Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail, the initiative has played a crucial role in enhancing the country’s transportation infrastructure.

During the journey, Sheikh Ahmed and the delegation were warmly welcomed by Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, and other senior officials. They were briefed on the significant milestones achieved by Etihad Rail since the commencement of freight operations in February 2023. Notably, the network has successfully transported over 7.4 million tonnes of sulfur and 2.4 million tonnes of aggregates across the UAE, contributing to the nation’s economic growth and sustainable development.

The visit included a comprehensive tour of Etihad Rail’s operations and maintenance facility, providing insights into the network’s meticulous monitoring and oversight mechanisms. Emirati cadres at Etihad Rail highlighted the company’s dedication to fulfilling the directives of the UAE’s leadership and supporting the objectives outlined in the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 and UAE Centennial Plan 2071.

The journey underscored the strategic importance of Etihad Rail in bolstering the UAE’s transportation and logistics sector. By facilitating efficient cargo transport and promoting sustainable practices, the railway network aligns with the nation’s aspirations for a diversified and resilient economy.
