From Personal Passion to National Impact
Dr. Sharifa Yateem, the first Emirati Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), has dedicated her life to supporting individuals with autism. Her journey began with a deep passion for psychology and a commitment to making a difference in her community. After earning her MSc in Applied Behavior Analysis from Trinity College Dublin, she returned to the UAE with a vision: to create inclusive spaces where individuals with autism can thrive.
Establishing the Sharifa Yateem Center for Rehabilitation

In 2016, Dr. Yateem founded the Sharifa Yateem Center for Rehabilitation (SYCR) in Abu Dhabi. The center offers evidence-based therapies tailored to each individual’s needs, focusing on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). SYCR provides a range of services, including early intervention programs, social skills training, and support for families.
In 2022, SYCR became the first therapy center in Abu Dhabi to earn the Certified Autism Center™ (CAC) designation from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), recognizing the center’s commitment to high-quality, autism-specific services.
Notably, SYCR is also the first and only center in the UAE to earn the Behavior Health Center of Excellence (BHCOE) accreditation from Jade Health (USA)—a prestigious recognition that highlights the center’s dedication to clinical excellence and ethical practice in behavioral health services.
Innovating with Tokenat App
Understanding the need for accessible tools, Dr. Yateem developed the Tokenat App, a digital platform designed to support behavior management strategies for individuals with autism. The app allows caregivers and therapists to implement token economies, reinforcing positive behaviors in a user-friendly format. Tokenat has been praised for its practicality and effectiveness in various settings.
Advocacy and Recognition
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Yateem is an active advocate for autism awareness and inclusion. She has been appointed to the IBCCES executive advisory board, contributing her expertise to global discussions on cognitive disorders. She also participated in the documentary As One: The Autism Project, highlighting the experiences of families affected by autism in the UAE.
A Vision for the Future
Dr. Yateem’s mission extends beyond her center. She aims to foster a society where individuals with autism are understood, accepted, and empowered. Through continuous education, community engagement, and innovative solutions, Dr. Sharifa Yateem is shaping a more inclusive future for the UAE and beyond.
