Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched an ambitious project to erect 762 cutting-edge public bus shelters strategically positioned across the emirate.
The initiative, slated for completion by 2025, marks a significant leap in enhancing transportation infrastructure and services in Dubai.
Innovative Construction Techniques:
In an innovative move, RTA is exploring integrating 3D printing technology in partnership with a specialized company to construct select bus shelters.
This trial initiative showcases RTA’s commitment to adopting advanced methodologies for efficient and futuristic infrastructure development.
Enhanced Accessibility and Design:
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of RTA’s Board of Executive Directors, emphasized the shelters’ design alignment with the Dubai Code for People of Determination.
Wheelchair-accessible areas are incorporated, aligning with the vision of making an inclusive and accommodating environment for all residents.
This initiative resonates with Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s initiative, “My Community… A Place for Everyone,” which aims to foster an amiable city for People of Determination.
Catering to Varied Passenger Volumes:
The bus shelters are categorized into four tiers based on passenger traffic:
- Main Stops (over 750 passengers daily)
- Secondary Stops (250 to 750 passengers daily)
- Primary Stops (100 to 250 passengers daily)
- Pick-up/Drop-off Stations (up to 100 passengers daily)
Features and Amenities:
Main stops will feature air-conditioned sections catering to commuter comfort. All shelters will provide shaded outdoor areas and advertising spaces.
Moreover, they will have information screens displaying bus routes, schedules, pick-up times, and pertinent passenger services to ensure a seamless and informative experience for commuters.
Enhancing Mobility and Public Transport Usage:
This comprehensive initiative underscores RTA’s commitment to fostering mobility and increasing public transport patronage in Dubai.
The continued efforts towards infrastructure development aim to elevate the overall public transportation experience, encouraging more residents to utilize these convenient and technologically advanced facilities.
