Road Closure Alert: Sheikh Zayed Road Detour for COP28

The busy Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai will be temporarily closed, disrupting traffic from the Trade Centre heading to Abu Dhabi.

Dubai’s bustling Sheikh Zayed Road is set to undergo a temporary closure, affecting Abu Dhabi-bound traffic from the Trade Centre Roundabout to the Expo Intersection. 

This traffic diversion is scheduled for December 1 to 3 mornings, coinciding with the UN Climate Change Conference COP28 and the UAE’s 52nd Union Day celebrations.

Closure Timings and Alternative Routes:

The road closure will be in effect from 7 am to 11 am on December 1-3 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), impacting morning peak traffic hours.

Alternative Routes:

To navigate around the closed stretch of Sheikh Zayed Road, motorists are advised to utilize alternative routes such as Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Emirates, Al Khail, Jumeirah, Al Wasl, and Al Khail roads. Additionally, public transportation is recommended during these days.

Significance of COP28 and Union Day Celebrations:

More than 70,000 delegates from 198 countries will gather in the UAE for the UN Climate Change Conference COP28, which will be held from November 30 to December 12. This monumental event will unite world leaders, ministers, and climate activists to address pressing environmental concerns.

UAE Union Day:

December 2 marks the UAE’s Union Day, commemorating the unification of the Emirates in 1971. Private and public sector employees are granted a three-day break, from December 2 to 4, to observe this significant occasion.
