Reckless Driving Incident in Ras Al Khaimah Leads to Arrest

A 20-year-old guy was arrested in Ras Al Khaimah's southern region for irresponsible behaviour, which included making excessive noise.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in a southern area of Ras Al Khaimah due to his reckless behavior, which included creating excessive noise and performing stunts in front of a police patrol. His actions displayed a blatant disregard for the law.

The arrest followed the circulation of a viral video that depicted a four-wheel drive vehicle performing stunts in front of a police patrol.

Colonel Dr. Mohamed Al-Bahar, Director of the Traffic and Patrol Department of Ras Al-Khaimah Police, expressed deep concern about the video.

He noted that such behavior not only disrespects law enforcement officers but also violates the country’s established traffic rules and regulations.

Prompt Police Response:

In response to the video, the traffic department acted swiftly. Under the instructions of General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al-Naeimi, the Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al-Khaimah Police, a search and investigation team was assembled.

This team comprised members from the Traffic Administration and Patrol and the Management of Comprehensive Police Stations.

Vehicle Seized, Legal Procedures Initiated:

The diligent efforts of the investigation team led to the identification of the vehicle and its driver. The vehicle was subsequently seized, and the driver is currently undergoing legal procedures in preparation for transfer to the Prosecutor General.

Colonel Al-Bahar emphasized that Ras Al Khaimah Police will not tolerate violations and impose severe punishments and penalties on those who disrespect law enforcement officers and disregard traffic regulations. The safety and well-being of the community are of paramount importance.

Penalties for Reckless Driving:

Under the UAE federal traffic law, reckless driving carries a fine of Dh2,000, 23 black points, and vehicle impounding for 60 days.

The same punishment and fine apply to drivers who endanger the lives of others.

The penalties for reckless driving are part of broader traffic regulations.

The law also addresses other violations, such as blocking traffic, jumping red signals, sudden swerving, and driving without a number plate.

Emirate-Specific Regulations:

It’s important to note that each UAE emirate may have specific traffic regulations and penalties.

In July 2023, Dubai implemented new laws addressing reckless driving and jumping red lights, categorizing them as serious traffic offenses.

Decree No. 30 of 2023 introduced penalties for reckless drivers who endanger safety and imposed a Dh50,000 fine for releasing impounded vehicles.
