Sergio Ramos gets the red card for the 29th time in his career as Sevilla lost 2-1 at Real Sociedad.

Former Real Madrid and Spain defender Sergio Ramos faced an 88th-minute dismissal for a sliding tackle on Brais Mendez. This latest red card sets a new record in La Liga history, marking the 37-year-old’s 21st dismissal in the league. 

The expulsion, occurring on Sunday’s match, solidifies Ramos’ standing as the player with the most red cards in La Liga, surpassing Sevilla winger Jesus Navas, who, at 38, experienced his first-ever La Liga dismissal, objecting to the decision.

Century’s Red Card Leader:

Ramos has accrued more red cards in the 21st century than any other player, edging ahead of Rafael Marquez (21) and Felipe Melo (20). The incident saw Ramos receive his second yellow card on the 82nd minute, promptly followed by a straight red card upon the referee’s review via the pitchside monitor.

Real Sociedad seized an early advantage with an own goal from Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic. Umar Sadiq bolstered their lead with a stunning 25-yard strike. 

However, Youssef En-Nesyri narrowed the gap with a deflected header, nearly equalizing as he struck the post. Ramos’ dismissal came as he played for his hometown club after rejoining them in the summer.
