Leaders met at Qasr Al Bahr on Friday and talked about bilateral ties.
Presidential Summit:
President Sheikh Mohamed welcomed President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus in Abu Dhabi at Qasr Al Bahr. The meeting centered on discussions about enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations.
Regional Concerns:
Amidst their talks, the two leaders delved into the developments unfolding in the Middle East. They emphasized the critical need for fostering peace and security in the region, especially given the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Coinciding with Cop28:
President Lukashenko’s visit aligned with the ongoing Cop28 summit in Dubai, scheduled until December 12.
He commended the UAE’s hosting of the event and expressed hope for significant progress in international climate action and addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
Pledges and Initiatives:
During Cop28, Sheikh Mohamed announced a substantial $30 billion pledge toward loss and damage, aimed at closing the climate financing gap and supporting climate solutions.
This commitment seeks to address the needs of countries at the forefront of the crisis, often the least responsible for its causes.
Alterra: Creating a Fairer Climate System:
Part of the $30 billion pledge will contribute to Alterra, a new private investment vehicle aiming to raise $250 billion globally within six years.
This initiative seeks to create a more equitable climate system, aligning with Sheikh Mohamed’s commitment outlined in his opening address at Cop28.
