Born in Istanbul in 1985, Ahmet Oytun Cakir’s journey to becoming a powerhouse in the hospitality industry was nurtured by his upbringing in a family deeply rooted in tourism. From his early years, Oytun was surrounded by the world of hotels, service, and travel, which ultimately shaped his vision for excellence in hospitality. Today, he is one of the leading forces behind some of the most recognized global brands, including Gastronaut Hospitality, Trove, and Boho, with many more on the horizon.
Growing up in Tourism and Hospitality
Oytun’s passion for hospitality began in his family’s hotel in Bodrum, where he spent much of his childhood absorbing the nuances of luxury service. His formal education in International Economics from Bilgi University laid a solid foundation, but it was his time at the Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland—one of the world’s top three hospitality management schools—that honed his expertise in service management. This education equipped Oytun with the skills and insights to elevate his family’s business to new heights.
From Local Success to Global Influence
Upon returning to Bodrum, Oytun took the reins of his family’s Sianji Wellbeing Resort, overseeing operations for six years as Head of Operations and Vice President. Under his leadership, Sianji flourished, receiving 21 awards from five different authorities, including being named Europe’s Leading Wellness Resort twice. This marked a defining moment in Oytun’s career, positioning him as one of Turkey’s most promising young leaders in the hospitality industry.
Expanding Turkish Brands to Dubai
In 2016, Oytun took his expertise global by relocating to Dubai. He joined Q Food & Beverage as Regional Director, where he played a pivotal role in establishing renowned Turkish restaurant brands Huqqa and The Galliard in Dubai for the first time. His success didn’t stop there. As CEO of Dives Holding, Oytun spearheaded the international expansion of the CZNBURAK restaurant chain, a culinary sensation created by celebrity chef Burak Özdemir. These brands quickly became top performers in Downtown Dubai, cementing Oytun’s reputation as a mastermind behind turning local restaurant concepts into global successes.
Launching Gastronaut Hospitality
After years of successfully managing and expanding other brands, Oytun, together with his partner Orkan Doganci, launched his own company, Gastronaut Hospitality. In under a year, Gastronaut created notable restaurant brands such as Trove, Boho, Lezzet, and Nefes. In 2023, the company exited from Lezzet and Nefes, selling their shares, while maintaining ownership of Trove and BohoX Cafe in Dubai Mall and MBR Boulevard, respectively.
Building Brands from Scratch
Gastronaut Hospitality also offers consultancy services, helping to create homegrown brands for other businesses, such as Zenon, Blume, Rodina, and District 8 Marina. Through these partnerships, Oytun provides turnkey solutions for restaurant concept creation, helping investors navigate the entire process from ideation to execution.
A Visionary with an Eye on the Future
Never one to rest on his laurels, Oytun is currently working on one of his most ambitious projects to date—Woohoo, a futuristic dining concept that promises to bring cutting-edge technology to the restaurant industry. This project underscores his commitment to innovation and his relentless drive to stay ahead of trends in the hospitality sector.
A Passion Beyond Hospitality
Oytun’s interests are not confined to business alone. He is an avid traveler, photographer, and motorcyclist. His passion for drone photography and scuba diving are outlets for his creativity, while his love for gastronomy reflects his deep connection to the industry he has mastered. He recently launched a YouTube channel, Harley Baba, combining his love for motorcycles and travel into a fun, engaging project for his followers.
