Sahebaan UAE, an organization representing the Urdu-speaking Muslim community from India’s Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, hosted a grand family gathering on February 15 at the Amity School grounds in Al Qusais, Dubai. The event saw the participation of over a thousand community members from the UAE, neighboring Gulf countries, and India, coming together to celebrate achievements and strengthen communal bonds.

The evening commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Master Mohammad Faiz and Fazil Rahil Ali, setting a spiritual tone for the gathering. Althaf M S, a coordinator for Sahebaan UAE, welcomed attendees and emphasized the organization’s role in providing a platform for community members to connect and foster brotherhood.
Honoring Community Pillars
The gathering paid tribute to esteemed patrons of the Sahebaan UAE community: Hidayathullah Abbas, K S Nissar Ahmed, and Afroz Assadi. They were recognized for their outstanding humanitarian efforts, charitable contributions, and unwavering support for Sahebaan UAE’s initiatives. The honoring proceedings were led by Suhail Kudroli, Altaf Khalife, and Samiullah M H.
Sahebaan Excellence Awards
A significant highlight of the event was the presentation of the ‘Sahebaan Excellence Awards,’ acknowledging individuals who have excelled in various fields:
- Business Excellence: Mohammad Akram, founder and chairman of Abu Dhabi-based Al Sitara Contracting, was honored for his notable contributions to the business sector.
- Sports Excellence: International superbike racing champion and owner of DSBK Superbike Racing Company, Nasir Syed from Karkala, received recognition for his achievements in motorsports.
- Academic Excellence: The late Prof. Muzaffar Assadi, a distinguished academician and scholar, was posthumously awarded for his contributions to education. His brother, Sajjad Assadi, accepted the honor on his behalf.
- Literary Excellence: Author and poet Irshad Moodbidri was celebrated for his contributions to literature, with his son accepting the award in his stead.
- Community Service Excellence: Mohammed Asif and his wife, Mrs. Sahara Mohammed Asif, were recognized for their remarkable social service initiatives. Their son, Ahad, accepted the award on their behalf.

The event also celebrated the academic accomplishments of students who excelled in their studies. The ‘Sahebaan Merit Award’ was presented to students who achieved above 90% in their examinations. Notable honorees included:
- Faiz Anam: Scored 94.2% in the tenth-grade board exams.
- Mohammad Rayaan: Achieved 92.6%.
- Mohammad Umair Suvaid Khan: Secured 90.8%.
