Unbeknownst to her, this private moment was being recorded by a fellow teacher without her consent.
Public Backlash and Personal Repercussions

Detractors labeled her actions as inappropriate and unbecoming of an educator. The backlash was swift and severe: Youssef was dismissed from her teaching position at Khaled Ibn al-Walid Primary School in Dakahlia Governorate. Compounding her distress, her husband filed for divorce, leaving her to care for their three children alone.
