Finding Creativity in a Stressful Environment
Being a PharmD student is no small feat. The demands of rigorous coursework and exams often leave little room for personal passions. For Misk, however, creativity became an outlet—a way to balance the stress of her academic life. She started creating filters as a hobby, focusing on designs that enhance the natural beauty of the user while making each experience unique and memorable.
Her interest in photography, graphic design, and social media inspired her to experiment with filters. “I love how something as simple as a filter can make someone’s day more meaningful and memorable,” Misk shares. She began with Snapchat filters but soon expanded her work to Instagram, where her creations gained popularity. She decided to call her brand “ursnapfilters,” a name that reflects the personal and customizable nature of her filters—filters designed just for you.
A Milestone Achievement: The Expo 2020 Filter
One of Misk’s biggest milestones came when she independently created a custom filter for Expo 2020 Dubai. The filter, which she distributed publicly without any collaboration, garnered over 1.3 million impressions. Celebrities and media personalities such as Hicham Haddad, Jamila El Badaoui, and the Alroeya newspaper used her filter, making it a viral sensation. The success of this filter solidified her reputation as a creative force in the world of social media filters.
Misk’s journey is not only about creating visually appealing filters but also about making them meaningful for users. Her filters are designed to enhance memories, make moments special, and provide a personalized touch that sets them apart from generic designs.
Collaborations with Influencers and Expanding Her Reach
After gaining recognition with her Viral filter, Misk started receiving collaboration requests from well-known influencers and celebrities, including Mona Kattan, Danya Diva Dee, Ebraheem Alsamadi, Kris Fade, Maram Ali, and Jumana Karim. Despite her success, Misk faced challenges along the way. One major hurdle was her limited proficiency in reading and writing Arabic. While she was fluent in speaking the language, many of her clients communicated with her in Arabic. At first, she relied on her mother and translation tools, but over time, Misk worked hard to improve her language skills. Now, after two years of working with Arabic-speaking clients, she confidently manages all communications on her own.
Expanding Horizons: TikTok Filters and Future Plans
Misk is not one to rest on her laurels. With over 490 million impressions on Instagram filters, she has now set her sights on expanding her presence on TikTok, where the demand for creative filters is rapidly growing. “There has been a huge increase in popularity for TikTok filters, and I just recently started creating them,” she explains. Her long-term vision is to continue creating unique, customizable filters across platforms, with a focus on fun and engaging designs that appeal to a broad audience.
Lessons in Patience and Perseverance
For Misk, success is not just about talent; it’s about patience and hard work. “When facing challenges or setbacks, I stay motivated because I understand that in every project or business, there are ups and downs,” she says. One of the most important lessons she’s learned is to follow her passion, even if it doesn’t align perfectly with her academic career. “Even if some people don’t like my work, there will always be more who love it. Hard work really does bring success.”
Her journey has also taught her valuable lessons in balancing different aspects of life. As a student and a creative entrepreneur, Misk hopes to inspire others to pursue their hobbies and passions, even while working toward academic or professional goals. “Whether you’re studying pharmacy, medicine, engineering, or fashion, you can always follow your hobbies at the same time,” she emphasizes.

She aims to redefine how filters are used in social media, encouraging people to focus on enhancing their natural beauty rather than completely altering their features. “My biggest way to contribute to society, especially in the world of social media, is to show that we are all beautiful,” she says.
