MIA Art Collection: Boldly Elevating Women Artists Worldwide

A Vision Rooted in Empowerment

The MIA Art Collection is a private, not-for-profit organization with a powerful mission: to promote and elevate women artists globally. Founded by philanthropist Alejandra Castro Rioseco, MIA has grown into a transformative force in the art world, advocating for gender equality and providing a platform for female artists to showcase their work.

With a presence in over 33 countries and a collection of more than 900 artworks, MIA is not just an art collection—it’s a movement. Headquartered in Dubai, UAE, with additional bases in Antwerp, Belgium, and Madrid, Spain, MIA is committed to bridging the gap between the art scene and the business sector, empowering women artists to gain visibility and succeed.

Showcasing Women’s Stories Through Art

MIA’s exhibitions are more than just displays of art; they are narratives of women’s lifestyles, struggles, achievements, and current happenings. By highlighting these stories, MIA aims to inspire people and foster a deeper understanding of the female experience.

One of MIA’s notable initiatives is the “MIA Anywhere” virtual museum, launched in 2020. This platform has hosted 36 virtual exhibitions, featuring 130 women artists from 31 countries. It was created to support and provide visibility to women artists during the pandemic, ensuring that their work continued to reach audiences worldwide.

Celebrating Women Artists in Dubai

Dubai has become a central hub for MIA’s activities, hosting several significant exhibitions and events. In April 2025, MIA, in collaboration with the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA), presented the “Her Land” exhibition at Dubai Festival City’s Festival Tower. This exhibition showcased the creations of Latin American women artists, offering a panoramic view of their contributions to the art world.

Previously, MIA organized the “Fragility” exhibition in collaboration with the Canadian University of Dubai, featuring over 30 artworks by women artists from around the world. The exhibition focused on the relationship between feminine fragility and contemporary society, capturing diverse perspectives and approaches.

Bridging Art and Business

MIA Art Collection aims to bridge the gap between the art scene and the business sector. By organizing events like the annual MIA Art Collection Gala & Awards in Dubai, MIA provides opportunities for corporations to engage with social responsibility initiatives and support women in the arts. These events serve as platforms for reflection, networking, and appreciation of the arts, emphasizing the critical importance of gender equality within the art domain and beyond.

A Global Community of Support

MIA’s impact extends beyond exhibitions. The organization has established the MIA Friends Membership Club, a unique platform designed to bring individuals closer to the vibrant world of contemporary art and offer exclusive opportunities. Through this club, members can engage with MIA’s initiatives, support women artists, and be part of a global community dedicated to promoting gender equality in the arts.
