From Childhood Dreams to Global Ventures
From a young age, Menna Shahin harbored a fervent desire to explore the world, meet new people, and immerse herself in diverse cultures. Growing up in a conservative family in Egypt, her aspirations were met with resistance, as traveling alone was deemed unconventional. Undeterred, Shahin’s determination led her to pursue her dreams, ultimately visiting over 30 countries and establishing herself as a trailblazer for women in travel.
Empowering Women Through Travel
Recognizing the societal constraints that many women face regarding solo travel, Shahin founded SheTravels, an initiative dedicated to providing travel services exclusively for women. SheTravels aims to empower women by offering them the opportunity to explore the world, build new connections, and discover more about themselves. By organizing trips within Egypt and abroad, SheTravels not only facilitates travel experiences but also incorporates life coaching, encouraging personal growth and self-discovery among participants.
Innovating Against Food Waste
In addition to her contributions to women’s empowerment, Shahin has made significant strides in addressing food waste and hunger. Co-founding Tekeya, a mobile application launched in 2019, she created a digital marketplace connecting hotels, restaurants, and grocery stores with consumers seeking affordable meals. Through Tekeya, food providers can sell surplus food at reduced prices or donate it to charitable organizations, thereby reducing food waste and combating hunger. This initiative not only offers consumers access to affordable meals but also contributes to environmental sustainability by minimizing CO2 emissions associated with food waste.
A Multifaceted Leader
Beyond her entrepreneurial ventures, Shahin’s career encompasses roles as a regional executive in a multinational pharmaceutical company and active involvement in social and community work, including membership in the Giza Horizon Rotary Club. Her diverse interests and commitments reflect a deep-seated passion for effecting positive change across various sectors.
