German airline group Lufthansa has announced its plans to resume flights to Tel Aviv from January 8, marking a significant development after the suspension of services in early October following the Hamas attack on Israel.

Gradual Reinstatement of Services with Security Precautions:

The Lufthansa group’s airlines, including Lufthansa Airlines, Austrian Airlines, and SWISS, will initially provide “20 weekly connections to and from Tel Aviv,” constituting approximately 30% of the regular flight schedule. 

Flights from Frankfurt and Munich will be available, indicating a cautious but deliberate approach to service resumption.

Broad Impact on Air Travel:

Lufthansa’s decision to halt flights mirrored actions taken by other major carriers, including British Airways, Air France-KLM, and Delta, which also temporarily cut flights to Tel Aviv following the October 7 attack by Hamas.

In addition to the Tel Aviv route, Lufthansa suspended flights to and from Beirut on October 13 due to escalating regional tensions. However, the airline and its subsidiaries SWISS and Eurowings have now resumed flights to Beirut, reflecting an assessment of improved conditions.
