Dubai’s Strays Rescued: Inside Dina Taji’s Cat Crusade

Dina Taji

A Passion Ignited by Compassion

Dina Taji’s journey into animal rescue began with a simple act of kindness. While working as a fitness coach, she started feeding stray cats she came across on the streets of Dubai. What began as a personal habit gradually turned into a commitment to rescue and care for the city’s many abandoned cats. Together with a friend, she co-founded Dubai Street Kitties, a non-profit initiative focused on giving strays a second chance.

With limited means but strong determination, Dina and her partner rented a villa and turned it into a shelter that now houses over 400 cats. The space includes quiet resting spots, play areas, and a small section for medical care ensuring each cat receives comfort and attention.

Using Social Media for Good

Dina created the Instagram account @dubaistreetkitties to document their efforts. Sharing before-and-after stories, rescue updates, and adoption highlights, the page has built a supportive following. This digital presence has helped raise awareness and encourage responsible adoption.

Everyday Challenges and Small Wins

Running a rescue space means facing daily challenges—from handling sick or injured animals to managing the constant need for food, litter, and medications. Still, the team’s dedication has led to meaningful outcomes, including hundreds of successful rescues and adoptions.

Engaging the Community

Beyond sheltering cats, Dubai Street Kitties promotes public awareness. They encourage spaying and neutering, teach the basics of humane care, and engage with the local community to build empathy toward animals.

The Bigger Picture

Dina’s story is one of care and quiet resilience. Her move from personal passion to community action shows how small steps can lead to significant change. As her work continues, she hopes more people will see the value in protecting and supporting the animals who share our streets.
