How Kamal Abouelkheir Revived Wellness in Egypt’s Red Sea

Kamal Abouelkheir

Kamal Abouelkheir’s story begins with heartbreak. At just six years old, he lost his father. It was a moment that could have led to years of struggle, but instead, it became the foundation of who he is today. Raised by a strong mother and a supportive elder brother, Kamal learned early the values of resilience, gratitude, and hard work.

He reflects on that time with honesty, acknowledging how the absence of a father figure shaped him but also gave him the strength to pursue his goals. His family’s support created a safety net, but it was Kamal’s determination that truly propelled him forward.

Passion for Two Worlds: Fitness and Hospitality

Growing up, Kamal was always drawn to two completely different fields. On one side, he loved hospitality and tourism. On the other, he found a deep connection to fitness and wellness. While some people struggle to choose one path, Kamal decided not to choose. He embraced both.

Over time, he began experimenting with healthy habits—working out, eating clean, and understanding how the human body works. His curiosity turned into commitment. He spent years reading, training, and eventually getting certified in fitness and sports nutrition. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it.

Turning a Dream Into Reality: The Bootcamp Retreat

Since high school, Kamal had a clear vision: to create a space where people could experience transformation both physically and mentally. That idea eventually became The Bootcamp Retreat.

The Bootcamp Retreat is a four-day escape that blends the best of both industries Kamal loves—fitness and hospitality. It’s a place where people unplug from daily stress and reconnect with themselves. Participants get to experience various physical activities, but also mental and spiritual exercises.

From sunrise workouts and nutrition classes to sound healing sessions, ice baths, island hopping, and safari adventures—the retreat offers something for everyone. And more than just a short break, it leaves lasting impact. Guests walk away feeling healthier, more focused, and often with new friendships formed along the way.

Kamal is proud of how the retreat helps people not only transform their bodies but also better understand their relationship with food, movement, and mental health. For him, it’s not just a business—it’s a mission.

Returning Home: A New Chapter in Egypt

After finishing his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a Master’s degree in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the UK, Kamal made the decision to return to Egypt. It wasn’t an easy transition. Like many who study abroad, he felt a little lost, unsure of where to start or what to do next.

But slowly, he began reconnecting with both sides of his passion. He took on a leadership role as the Fitness Manager at LA7 Gym in El Gouna, one of Egypt’s top gyms. At the same time, he became actively involved in managing the hospitality and tourism branch of his family’s business.

This dual role allows him to stay connected to both industries and sharpen his skills in each. For Kamal, both fitness and hospitality aren’t just careers—they are platforms that allow him to create positive change.

Holistic Living: More Than Just Workouts

Kamal’s work is about more than just exercise. He sees wellness as something full-circle: physical, mental, emotional, and social. That’s why The Bootcamp Retreat focuses on holistic practices. From guided meditation and breathwork to fun adventures like water parks and beach games, everything is designed to reset the mind and body.

Participants leave with more than just memories—they take home new habits, new energy, and often, a new perspective.

Kamal is particularly proud of how diverse each group is. People come from different backgrounds, different countries, and different fitness levels. But within days, they bond over shared challenges, shared meals, and shared goals. That sense of community is what keeps them coming back.

Building Toward the Future

The Bootcamp Retreat is just the beginning. Kamal is already working on the next big thing: a year-round fitness and wellness hospitality experience based in Egypt’s Red Sea area. While he hasn’t shared full details yet, he hints that it will be something new, something the region hasn’t seen before.

He’s excited about blending the comfort of high-end hospitality with the impact of wellness programs. Think spa treatments, healthy cuisine, personal training, workshops, and more—all in a destination setting.

His long-term goal is not just to grow his business, but to shift how people in Egypt and the Middle East view wellness. He wants to help people suffering from mental health struggles, physical conditions, or burnout rediscover balance and strength.

Lessons in Leadership and Growth

One of the biggest things Kamal has learned is the importance of communication. Every business interaction is different, and success often comes down to understanding people—how they think, how they speak, what they value.

Whether he’s managing a team at the gym or planning logistics for a retreat, he focuses on clear, kind communication. He believes in adapting to others’ communication styles and being open-minded. He also knows that the industry is always evolving. That’s why he continues to read, learn, and stay up-to-date on global trends in both fitness and tourism.

Kamal believes that staying curious and humble is what keeps him grounded—and keeps his business growing.

A Message to Anyone Chasing a Dream

Looking back, Kamal wants people to know that doubt is normal—but it should never stop you. His message is simple: stop doubting, start doing. Every step forward, no matter how small, brings you closer to your dream.

He believes that worrying only wastes time and energy. Instead, use that energy to learn, plan, and act. Whether it’s starting a new workout routine, launching a business, or simply changing your lifestyle, the key is to begin. No one has it all figured out at the start.

Kamal didn’t come from wealth or privilege. He came from a place of pain and turned it into passion. And now, he’s building something that helps others do the same.
