Sherika De Armas, a former Miss World contestant who represented Uruguay in the 2015 edition of the beauty pageant, passed away at 26 on October 13. 

She had been battling cervical cancer for two years. Sherika’s brother, Mayk’ De Armas, confirmed her passing on social media with a heartfelt message, “Fly high, little sister. Always and forever.”

Tributes and Condolences:

The current Miss Uruguay, Carla Romero expressed her grief and described Sherika as “too evolved for this world” and “one of the most beautiful women I have ever met.” 

Miss Universe Uruguay 2021, Lola de los Santos, shared pictures and videos to remember Sherika, highlighting her support, affection, and desire to see others shine and grow.

Recognition at Miss World:

Sherika De Armas received recognition during her participation in the 2015 Miss World contest held in Sanya, China. 

Her beautiful face, towering height, and charismatic personality earned her recognition as one of Uruguay’s young promising talents. 

Despite not reaching the top 30, she cherished the experience and the challenges it brought.

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women globally. 

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that approximately 570,000 women worldwide were diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2018, with about 311,000 women losing their lives to the disease that same year. 

Sherika De Armas’ passing highlights the importance of continued awareness and healthcare initiatives to combat cervical cancer.
