The young boy responsible for the shooting now faces a charge of attempted second-degree murder. The severity of the incident has led to legal consequences.

Potential Charges for Adults

Further legal action may be taken against adults involved, as it was determined that the firearm was not properly stored in a secured, locked box. The Apopka police chief, Mike McKinley, expressed concern over this aspect of the case.

A Troubling Trend

During a news conference, Chief McKinley voiced his deep concern over the incident at the Northwest Recreation Complex, describing it as “not good.” He emphasized the pressing issue of children, as young as 11, gaining access to firearms and attempting to resolve disputes with them.

McKinley expressed his belief that such incidents were occurring with alarming frequency, with children seemingly getting younger and younger when they become involved in firearms-related incidents.
