A man has died after a van struck a group of people in a town center, police have said.

Police Response to Tragic Event

Derbyshire Police responded to a distressing incident at Market Place, Ilkeston, around 02:10 GMT on Saturday. 

The police confirmed that one individual sustained severe injuries and tragically died at the scene. Additionally, two others were taken to the hospital following the incident.

Arrest Made on Murder Suspicions

The authorities apprehended a man believed to be the van’s driver on suspicion of murder. Currently in police custody, the suspect is undergoing questioning as investigations into the incident proceed.

No Terror Links, No Ongoing Manhunt

Law enforcement officials have clarified that they do not suspect any terrorism-related motives behind the event. Furthermore, they assured the public that they are not actively seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

While one person succumbed to their injuries, the injuries sustained by the other two individuals are not deemed serious, according to the police. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to uncover more details surrounding the tragic event.
