Eid Al Fitr 2025: UAE Announces Private Sector Holiday Dates

Eid Al Fitr

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially announced the Eid Al Fitr holiday dates for private sector employees. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) confirmed that the holiday will commence on Sunday, March 30, 2025, and conclude on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. However, if the month of Ramadan extends to 30 days, the holiday will be extended to Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

Understanding the Holiday Schedule

The Islamic calendar is lunar-based, causing the dates of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr to shift annually. The duration of Ramadan can be either 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon. For 2025, Ramadan began on Saturday, March 1, making Saturday, March 29, the 29th day of fasting. The Moon Sighting Committee will convene on this day to determine if the crescent moon is visible, signaling the end of Ramadan and the start of Eid Al Fitr.

The holiday scenarios are as follows:

  • If Ramadan is 29 days: Eid Al Fitr will start on Sunday, March 30, resulting in a holiday from Sunday, March 30, to Tuesday, April 1. Including the preceding weekend (Friday and Saturday), employees will enjoy a five-day break.
  • If Ramadan is 30 days: Eid Al Fitr will commence on Monday, March 31, extending the holiday from Monday, March 31, to Wednesday, April 2. With the weekend before, this provides a five-day break.

Significance of Eid Al Fitr

Eid Al Fitr, known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is a significant Islamic holiday marking the end of Ramadan. It is a time for Muslims worldwide to celebrate with family and friends, expressing gratitude and joy. The festivities typically include communal prayers, feasts, giving of alms, and exchanging gifts. In the UAE, Eid is celebrated with various cultural events, special promotions, and public gatherings, reflecting the nation’s rich heritage and commitment to community values.

Planning Ahead

With the potential for an extended break, residents and visitors in the UAE are encouraged to plan their activities in advance. Whether it’s a staycation, exploring local attractions, or traveling abroad, early preparation can enhance the holiday experience. Employers and employees alike should take note of the confirmed dates to ensure smooth business operations around the holiday period.
