Dubai traffic has always been a challenge, especially around the Dubai World Trade Centre area. However, commuters can now enjoy a significant improvement as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened two new bridges, making travel faster, smoother, and more efficient.
Bridges That Transform Commutes
The two newly opened bridges connect 2nd December Street with Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Majlis Street, which further links to Al Mustaqbal Street. Each bridge features two lanes in both directions, with a total length of 2,000 meters and a combined capacity to handle around 6,000 vehicles per hour.
These bridges are a major relief for commuters, particularly during major events such as GITEX Global, Arabian Travel Market, and Gulfood, when the area sees a massive surge of visitors.
Journey Times Slashed Dramatically
With the new infrastructure in place, journey times from 2nd December Street to Al Majlis Street, Al Mustaqbal Street, and Zabeel Palace Street have dropped significantly – from an average of 10 minutes down to just two minutes. This improvement ensures faster access to key locations like Dubai World Trade Centre and the Dubai International Financial Centre.
A Visionary Project Ahead of Schedule
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of RTA, highlighted that the Trade Centre Roundabout is a vital intersection linking Sheikh Zayed Road with five important streets: Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Road, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and Al Majlis Street.
The full redevelopment project has a total budget exceeding AED 696 million. It includes the construction of five bridges spanning 5,000 meters and converting the existing roundabout into an at-grade intersection.

Enhancing Connectivity Across the City
The project is designed to improve traffic flow in multiple directions:
- From Sheikh Zayed Road to 2nd December Street
- From Al Mustaqbal Street to Sheikh Zayed Road southbound
- From 2nd December Street in Jumeirah and Al Satwa to Al Majlis Street
- From Sheikh Rashid Road towards Deira
Additionally, a second-level bridge provides free-flow traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road towards Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, ensuring a smooth commuting experience across major arteries of the city.
Phased Openings and Progress Updates
The redevelopment is moving faster than anticipated, with nearly 50% of the project already completed. Sections are opening in phases to allow drivers to experience immediate improvements, while the remaining bridges will continue to enhance traffic flow upon completion.
The five bridges under construction are designed to enable uninterrupted movement in multiple directions, including Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa Road, Al Mustaqbal Street to 2nd December Street, and Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street.
A Future of Smoother Roads
Dubai’s commitment to improving urban mobility is evident in this project. By reducing travel times, enhancing connectivity, and providing free-flow traffic across key areas, the city is setting a new benchmark in road infrastructure. Commuters, residents, and visitors alike can now enjoy a safer, faster, and more efficient journey through one of Dubai’s busiest zones.
The new bridges mark a significant milestone in the RTA’s ongoing mission to modernize and expand Dubai’s road network, ensuring that the city continues to thrive as a global hub for business, tourism, and daily life.
