Heading out for New Year’s Eve in Dubai? This year, the city’s iconic Dubai Metro and Tram services will be running non-stop for over 43 hours to ensure residents and tourists enjoy seamless transportation during the grand celebrations. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced extended operating hours and additional services to make the festivities hassle-free for everyone.
Extended Metro and Tram Timings
The Dubai Metro will operate continuously from 5:00 AM on December 31 until the end of January 1, giving commuters uninterrupted access to the city’s major locations. Similarly, the Dubai Tram will run non-stop from 6:00 AM on December 31 until 1:00 AM on January 2, ensuring smooth connectivity along its route.
This initiative by the RTA is designed to minimize road congestion and provide efficient travel options for the anticipated large crowds.

1,400 Free Buses to Ease Commuting
To further enhance convenience, the RTA will deploy 1,400 buses across the emirate, offering free rides to residents and visitors. These buses will be strategically placed to cover all major areas and will be available throughout the celebrations.
Hussain Al Bana, Executive Director of Traffic at the RTA, explained, “We have approximately 1,400 buses operational during this period. In areas where we notice a surge in visitors, additional buses will be deployed to ensure everyone can travel without any hindrance. Our goal is to provide a seamless experience and reduce traffic pressure across the city.”

Key Stations and Crowd Management
While all metro stations will remain operational, the Dubai Mall Metro Station will close from 5:00 PM or earlier if the crowd exceeds capacity. Passengers are encouraged to use nearby stations like Business Bay to access New Year’s Eve festivities near the Burj Khalifa.
Hussain Al Bana added, “We have made special arrangements at some stations to manage the expected heavy footfall. For example, we will rely on Business Bay Station when the Burj Khalifa Metro Station is closed. The focus is on safety and convenience.”
Road Signage and Traffic Guidance
To complement public transport efforts, the RTA has installed road signage and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to guide motorists. Variable message boards will display real-time updates on road closures, alternative routes, and parking availability.
“Signage systems have been strategically placed to direct traffic, ensuring smooth access to key event areas. We urge the public to follow these signs for stress-free navigation,” Al Bana highlighted.

Public Parks and Festive Attractions
For those who prefer a quieter celebration, Dubai’s public parks will remain open until 1:00 AM, offering a serene setting to enjoy the New Year. Families and groups can also explore the city’s many vibrant event spots.
The festivities will reach their peak at midnight, with breathtaking fireworks displays and a drone show lighting up the Dubai skyline from 36 locations. Iconic venues like Burj Park, Global Village, Dubai Festival City Mall, Al Seef, Bluewaters, The Beach at JBR, and Hatta are set to host spectacular shows to welcome 2025.
A Vision of Seamless Celebrations
Dubai’s commitment to innovation and excellence is reflected in its well-planned public transport strategy for the New Year celebrations. By extending metro and tram services, providing free bus rides, and implementing intelligent road systems, the city ensures everyone can celebrate with ease.
This initiative is a testament to Dubai’s dedication to making life easier for its residents and visitors, showcasing its ability to blend convenience, technology, and hospitality on a global stage. As the world looks to Dubai for inspiration, this celebration marks another achievement in the city’s journey of success and progress.
