The Dubai Metro is one of the most popular and reliable ways to travel around the city. Whether you’re a resident going to work or a tourist exploring the city, the Metro helps you move around easily and quickly. Since its launch in 2009, the Metro has changed the way people travel in Dubai. It connects key parts of the city, is affordable, clean, and most importantly—on time.
What Are the Current Dubai Metro Timings?
Dubai Metro operates two main lines—Red Line and Green Line. Both lines run daily, including weekends and holidays, but the timings slightly change depending on the day of the week.
As of 2025, here are the general timings:

- Monday to Thursday:
5:00 AM to 12:00 AM (midnight) - Friday:
5:00 AM to 1:00 AM (next day) - Saturday:
5:00 AM to 12:00 AM (midnight) - Sunday:
8:00 AM to 12:00 AM (midnight)
Please note, these are the station opening times. The last train leaves just a few minutes before closing, so it’s good to be at the station at least 10-15 minutes before the final train of the day.
Is There a Difference Between Red and Green Line Timings?

The timings for both the Red Line and Green Line are mostly the same. However, some stations on either line might have slight differences, especially if maintenance work is ongoing or if the station is close to a major event location. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) often updates specific station timings on their screens and announcements, so it’s best to check just before traveling.
Trains Are More Frequent During Peak Hours
Dubai Metro trains come often, especially during busy times:
- Peak Hours:
Every 2-3 minutes - Off-Peak Hours:
Every 5-7 minutes
Peak hours usually fall between:
- 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM
- 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
If you’re planning your trip during these times, expect a bit of a crowd, but you won’t have to wait long for the next train.
What Happens on Public Holidays?

Dubai Metro usually runs on extended hours during public holidays, like Eid, New Year’s Eve, and National Day. Trains might run until 1:00 or even 2:00 AM depending on the celebration. The RTA always announces special timings a few days before the holiday, so keep an eye out on station boards or public announcements.
Metro Extensions and New Stations
Dubai Metro is constantly growing. With Expo 2020, the Route 2020 extension was introduced, connecting even more areas like Discovery Gardens, Jebel Ali, and the Expo site (now known as District 2020).
This extension has added to the Red Line and continues to operate with the same timing as the main line. More expansions are being planned as Dubai prepares for future events and growing population needs.
Tips for Using the Metro Smoothly
- Get a Nol Card:
You can’t ride the Metro without a Nol card. Buy it at any station and top it up easily. - Know Your Zone:
Dubai Metro has a zonal fare system. The more zones you travel across, the more you pay. Plan your route smartly. - Respect the Cabin Rules:
There are special cabins for women and children. There’s also a Gold Class cabin for those who pay extra. Regular cabins are for everyone else. Make sure you’re sitting or standing in the right place to avoid fines. - Avoid Rush If Possible:
If you don’t like crowds, avoid traveling during peak hours. Mid-morning and early afternoon are usually the quietest times. - Be Aware of Closures or Delays:
Occasionally, some stations close for maintenance or special events. Use the RTA app or ask at the counter to confirm.
What About Other Transport Options?
Dubai Metro is part of a larger public transport system that includes:
- Trams (especially useful in Marina and JBR)
- Public Buses
- Taxis and Ride-Hailing Services
- Water Buses and Ferries
All of these are connected, and you can even use your Nol card on trams and buses. If the Metro doesn’t go exactly where you want, you can easily connect using a bus or taxi from the nearest station.
Metro Safety and Cleanliness
The Dubai Metro is known worldwide for being one of the cleanest and safest metro systems. Each train and station is regularly cleaned and disinfected. Security is available on-site, and CCTV cameras are installed throughout the network to ensure passenger safety.
If you ever face any emergency or trouble, press the help button in the cabin or talk to the Metro staff on the platform.
