Dubai Marathon 2024: A Comprehensive Guide
Sunday’s race to bring Olympic hopefuls and fun runners together
Dubai is gearing up for its 23rd annual marathon, set to be a grand event attracting runners of all levels. The Dubai Marathon 2024, known for its scenic route and competitive spirit, promises to be a memorable experience for participants and spectators alike.
Last-Minute Registration and Fees
Prospective participants still have a chance to register for the event. Online registration is open until Saturday, with fees starting at $50. This includes an official race T-shirt, a finisher’s medal, and a downloadable certificate. Those who have already secured their tickets can pick up their race packs from the adidas store in The Dubai Mall.
Race Details and Route
The marathon features multiple races catering to different skill levels:
- A 4km fun run starting at 10 am
- A 10km road race beginning at 8.15 am
- The full marathon kicking off at 7 am
The starting point is near the Dubai Police Academy, with the route traversing the picturesque Jumeirah Beach Road, passing landmarks like Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah.
Facilities and Logistics
Participants will find water stations and toilets along the route. Medical teams and baggage facilities will also be available near the starting area. Organizers advise against parking along Jumeirah Beach Road. Recommended alternatives include Mall of the Emirates parking, within walking distance of the starting lines, and spaces near Al Wasl Road junctions. Taxi users are advised to book in advance and arrive 90 minutes before the race to avoid delays.
International Participation and Prizes
The Dubai Marathon 2024 is the first international marathon of the year, drawing professional athletes globally. Notable competitors include Ethiopia’s Haven Hailu Desse, winner of the Rotterdam and Osaka marathons, and Kenya’s Betty Chepkwony, recent winner in Rome. Ethiopia’s Dera Dida, last year’s women’s race winner, returns to defend her title. The victors of both the men’s and women’s races will be awarded $80,000.
