Sheikh Mohammed Announces Major Initiative for Digital Media Sector
LONDON: In a landmark move for the digital media industry, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the UAE’s Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has announced a significant financial initiative to bolster the content creation sector. A fund of Dh150 million ($40.8 million) is set to be allocated for supporting content creators and influencers, marking a major step in Dubai’s journey towards enhancing its global media footprint.
This initiative, coinciding with Dubai’s hosting of the prestigious 1 Billion Followers Summit, underlines the emirate’s commitment to nurturing creative talent and advancing the digital industry. The summit, a significant event in the social media and technology world, brought together over 3,000 attendees, including 100 speakers and more than 300 companies.
Sheikh Mohammed’s vision for this fund is not only to provide financial support but also to offer a comprehensive platform for personal and professional development of content creators. This is encapsulated in his plans to establish a permanent headquarters for influencers, providing year-round support and fostering a thriving community for digital innovators.
The initiative, as outlined in a statement by the state news agency WAM, aims to transform the digital media sector by supporting content creators in producing creative and impactful content. This move is seen as a strategic investment in novel communication channels, reflecting Sheikh Mohammed’s belief that “Impactful media reflects the past and provides inspiration for the future.”
Furthermore, the fund will facilitate training courses designed to nurture local and regional talents. These courses are expected to enhance the skills of content creators, enabling them to produce high-quality content that resonates with global audiences.
The influencers’ headquarters, a joint venture between the UAE Government Media Office and the New Media Academy, is envisioned as a hub for top influencers and content creators. Mohammad Al-Gergawi, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, emphasized the fund’s role in supporting content creators and innovators, aiming to transform the digital media sector and showcase the accomplishments and ambitions of the Emirati people to the world.
