Dubai International Airport (DXB) has achieved a significant milestone by installing over 520 hearing loops across its three terminals. This initiative marks the world’s largest deployment of hearing loop technology at an airport, underscoring Dubai’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.
What Are Hearing Loops?
Hearing loops, also known as induction loops, are assistive listening systems that transmit sound directly to hearing aids or cochlear implants equipped with a telecoil (T) setting. This technology enhances the clarity of speech in noisy environments, making it particularly beneficial in public spaces like airports.
Strategic Placement Across DXB
The hearing loops have been strategically installed at key locations throughout DXB, including:

- Check-in counters
- Immigration desks
- Boarding gates
- Information desks
This widespread installation ensures that travelers with hearing impairments can access clear and direct communication at critical touchpoints during their journey.
Seamless Integration for Travelers

One of the standout features of this installation is its user-friendliness. Passengers can connect to the hearing loop system by simply switching their hearing device to the ‘T’ (telecoil) setting. No additional pairing or equipment is required, allowing for an effortless and immediate connection to the system.

Collaboration for Accessibility
The successful implementation of this project was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Dubai Airports and its partners, including Emirates, flydubai, Dubai Police, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai Customs, dnata, Dubai Duty Free, and Dubai Taxi. This partnership reflects a unified commitment to enhancing the travel experience for all passengers.
Alignment with Universal Design Code
This initiative aligns with Dubai’s Universal Design Code, which mandates inclusive access to public spaces and transport infrastructure. By adhering to these standards, DXB ensures that travelers of determination have equal access to services and facilities, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a leader in accessibility.
Training for Frontline Staff
To complement the technological enhancements, frontline employees at DXB have undergone specialized training to assist guests of determination effectively. This training equips staff with the skills and knowledge to provide exceptional service to travelers with hearing impairments, ensuring a supportive and welcoming environment.

A Step Toward Global Inclusivity
With over 1.5 billion people worldwide living with some degree of hearing loss—a number expected to rise to 2.5 billion by 2050 according to the World Health Organization—this initiative is a significant step toward making travel more inclusive. By implementing the world’s largest hearing loop system, DXB sets a global standard for accessibility in airports.
Looking Ahead
Dubai Airports continues to explore innovative solutions to enhance the travel experience for all passengers. The installation of over 520 hearing loops is just one example of how DXB is leading the way in creating an inclusive and accessible airport environment. As the airport continues to grow and evolve, initiatives like this demonstrate a steadfast commitment to meeting the diverse needs of travelers worldwide.
