A Cultural Extravaganza Celebrating Urdu Literature and Poetry
Dubai is set to host the world’s largest Urdu literary festival, Jashn-e-Rekhta, alongside the UAE’s oldest annual Mushaira, starting this Saturday. The festival promises a mesmerizing experience for Urdu literature and poetry enthusiasts at two prime venues in Dubai.
Jashn-e-Rekhta: A Literary Feast Making its debut in Dubai, Jashn-e-Rekhta will commence at Zabeel Park at 1.30 pm on Saturday. The festival opens with a panel discussion featuring Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar and Pakistani human rights activist Arfa Sayeda Zehra. The first day will also witness three book launches, including “Andaze-e Bayan Aur” by Sanjiv Saraf.
Highlights and Notable Guests The event will be graced by illustrious names in Urdu poetry, including Dr. Kalim Qaisar, Dr. Majid Deobandi, and Tahir Faraz. Day 2 includes a Sufi concert by Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan and an interactive session with Pakistani actress Mahira Khan and veteran Indian actress Shabana Azmi.
Cultural and Artistic Performances The festival’s second evening features ‘Raqs-e-Naa Tammam,’ a tribute to the legendary singer Noor Jehan, and ‘Shab-e Rafta,’ a session of Sufi music featuring Abida Parveen. These performances promise to be the highlight of the event, showcasing the richness of Urdu culture and arts.
The Grand International Mushaira The pinnacle of Jashn-e-Rekhta is the grand international Mushaira, titled ‘Gehan aur Dhoop.’ This poetic symposium will feature acclaimed poets from around the globe, making it a must-attend for poetry lovers.
