In a bid to advance the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across government entities, the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI) convened representatives from 33 Dubai government entities at an event called AI Majlis.
The AI Majlis, part of a series of gatherings organized by DCAI, aimed to promote collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation in the field of AI. It addressed global AI trends, emerging opportunities, and strategies to shape the future of AI adoption within the Government of Dubai, aligning with DCAI’s key objectives.
Established in June 2023 by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the DCAI aims to position Dubai as a global leader in AI adoption in the public sector.
During the AI Majlis, His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, underscored the importance of government entities collaborating to achieve common goals through knowledge and experience exchange. He emphasized the need for government readiness to embrace technological advancements, highlighting their critical role in meeting stakeholder needs and seizing emerging opportunities in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
One of the key focuses of the event was on developing legislation and regulatory frameworks to support AI integration into government systems. Participants recognized that such frameworks could enhance operational flexibility, efficiency, and the ability of government entities to innovate and deliver services effectively. Additionally, they stressed the importance of nurturing young AI talents and fostering a culture of innovation within government organizations.
DCAI recently concluded an accelerator program for 30 companies from 13 countries, hosted at AREA 2071. Over eight weeks, these companies developed more than 300 AI projects to address over 100 challenges identified by 33 Dubai government entities. The program resulted in 72 collaborative AI projects between government agencies and participating companies, focusing on the future of government services and media and communication services sectors.
The Centre, supervised by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Government of Dubai Media Office, and Dubai Digital Authority, is dedicated to supporting Dubai government entities in leveraging AI and other future technologies to enhance future readiness. Key areas of focus include developing AI-related legislation, implementing adoption strategies, attracting global AI solutions, and nurturing local AI talents.
Overall, the AI Majlis served as a platform for government entities to come together, exchange insights, and collaborate on leveraging AI to drive innovation and enhance service delivery in Dubai.
