Paul Griffiths: The Visionary Leading Dubai Airports into the Future
Paul Griffiths serves as the Dubai Airports CEO, Chief Executive Officer overseeing the strategic direction and operational excellence of Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC). Since assuming the role in October 2007, Griffiths has been instrumental in transforming Dubai into a global aviation hub.
From Musician to Aviation Leader
Born in London on October 16, 1957, Griffiths developed an early passion for music. At the age of ten, he began studying church music and became an accomplished organist, eventually earning a fellowship from the Royal College of Organists in 1984. His musical background has influenced his leadership style, emphasizing harmony, precision, and creativity in airport operations.
Before joining Dubai Airports, Griffiths held various roles in the aviation industry, including positions in the UK and Europe. His diverse experiences equipped him with a unique perspective on airport management, blending artistic sensibilities with operational expertise.

Transforming Dubai Airports
Under Griffiths’ leadership, Dubai Airports has achieved significant milestones. In October 2008, just a year after his appointment, he successfully launched Terminal 3 at DXB, the world’s largest airport terminal by floor area. This expansion catered to the growing demand from Emirates Airlines and solidified Dubai’s position as a leading international travel hub.
In June 2010, Griffiths oversaw the opening of DWC, Dubai’s second airport, designed to accommodate future growth. The development of DWC is part of a long-term strategy to enhance the city’s aviation infrastructure and meet the increasing passenger demand.

Embracing Innovation and Sustainability
Griffiths is committed to integrating cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices into airport operations. Dubai Airports has implemented advanced systems to streamline passenger experiences, reduce environmental impact, and improve operational efficiency.
One of the most ambitious projects under Griffiths’ leadership is the $35 billion expansion of DWC. This development aims to create the world’s largest airport, with a capacity to handle up to 260 million passengers annually. The new terminal will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including automated check-in processes, biometric screening, and AI-driven security systems, ensuring a seamless and efficient travel experience.
Navigating Challenges and Ensuring Resilience
Throughout his tenure, Griffiths has demonstrated resilience in the face of challenges. Despite global disruptions, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and regional geopolitical tensions, Dubai Airports has maintained robust operations. In the first half of 2025, DXB recorded a historic 46 million passengers, a 2.3% increase from the previous year, showcasing the resilience of Dubai’s aviation sector.
Griffiths attributes this success to a proactive approach in crisis management, strategic planning, and a dedicated workforce. His leadership has fostered a culture of adaptability and continuous improvement within Dubai Airports.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Dubai Airports
As Dubai Airports continues to evolve, Griffiths remains focused on innovation, sustainability, and passenger satisfaction. The transition of operations from DXB to DWC is a significant step in the city’s long-term aviation strategy, aiming to accommodate future growth and enhance the travel experience.
Griffiths envisions a future where airports are not just transit points but destinations in themselves, offering unparalleled services and experiences. His leadership continues to shape the future of aviation, positioning Dubai Airports at the forefront of the global aviation industry.
