Dr. Mazin Rasool Aljabiri: Leading a Medical Revolution in Gastroenterology

Mazin Rasool Aljabiri

In the world of medicine, some professionals do more than treat patients. They redefine what is possible. Dr. Mazin Rasool Aljabiri is one such pioneer whose work in gastroenterology and advanced interventional endoscopy has transformed patient care across the UAE and the wider Middle East.

A Consultant Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital, Dr. Aljabiri is widely recognised for introducing advanced, minimally invasive techniques that have reshaped the region’s approach to complex gastrointestinal disease.

The Spark That Ignited a Lifelong Passion

Dr. Mazin Rasool Aljabiri’s journey into gastroenterology began early in his medical training, where exposure to complex gastrointestinal cases revealed a specialty that uniquely combined clinical reasoning, procedural expertise, and rapidly evolving technology.

He was particularly drawn to interventional endoscopy, where precision techniques allow doctors to diagnose and treat conditions that once required major surgery. The ability to deliver effective, minimally invasive care became the foundation of his professional calling.

Achieving Excellence Through Rigorous Training

Committed to mastering his field, Dr. Aljabiri completed extensive postgraduate training in the UK, earning Membership and later Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians. These milestones reflect not only technical excellence but also leadership, professionalism, and contribution to medicine.

Following the completion of his medical degree, Dr. Aljabiri undertook his house officer, SHO, and specialist registrar training within the North London Deanery. During this time, he served as the Specialist Registrar Representative for the region and rotated through leading tertiary centres including University College London Hospital, The Royal Free Hospital, Barts and The London, and Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals.

This period provided deep expertise across inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, and advanced interventional endoscopy. His clinical and leadership capabilities were formally recognised when he secured a substantive consultant gastroenterology position in the UK.

To further refine his advanced endoscopic skillset, Dr. Aljabiri completed focused training at the National Cancer Centre in Tokyo, Japan, in Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection and Endoscopic Piecemeal Mucosal Resection, strengthening his expertise in minimally invasive management of early gastrointestinal cancers.

Transforming Patient Care with Advanced Techniques

Dr. Mazin Rasool Aljabiri’s most profound impact has been his role in introducing cutting-edge interventional endoscopy techniques to the Middle East.

He was instrumental in introducing SpyGlass cholangioscopy for the first time in the UAE and the Middle East, with the region’s first published clinical data emerging from his programme at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital. This marked a major milestone in pancreatobiliary care, allowing direct visualisation and targeted therapy for complex bile duct conditions.

Under his leadership, advanced procedures such as Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection, Endoscopic Mucosal Resection, and complex ERCP interventions became part of routine practice, offering patients safer alternatives to major surgery and significantly improved recovery outcomes.

At Mediclinic Parkview Hospital, Dr. Aljabiri and his team were also pioneers in introducing artificial intelligence assisted colonoscopy and SpyGlass technology, significantly enhancing early detection of polyps and gastrointestinal cancers.

His practice additionally includes advanced endoscopic bariatric and metabolic therapies, including Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty and endoscopic reflux interventions, expanding non-surgical treatment options for obesity and reflux disease.

Global Academic Recognition and Research Leadership

Dr. Aljabiri’s work has achieved international academic recognition. His team’s research has been accepted for oral and abstract presentations at leading global forums including Digestive Disease Week, the British Society of Gastroenterology, APDW, and the Emirates Society of Gastroenterology, reflecting the global impact of innovation originating from the UAE.

He is also an active contributor to international research, ensuring that regional data informs global clinical practice, particularly in artificial intelligence applications in gastrointestinal diagnostics.

Overcoming Obstacles with Vision and Leadership

Establishing advanced interventional endoscopy services in a region where such techniques were previously unavailable required more than clinical skill. It demanded vision, persistence, and leadership.

Dr. Aljabiri worked closely with hospital leadership and multidisciplinary teams to build trust, invest in technology, and develop training frameworks that met international standards. These efforts helped position Mediclinic Parkview Hospital as a recognised Center of Excellence in Gastroenterology.

Teaching, Live Endoscopy, and International Faculty Roles

Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Mazin Rasool Aljabiri is regularly invited as a live endoscopy demonstrator and faculty member at major international meetings. He teaches advanced ERCP, ESD, reflux, and bariatric endoscopic therapies alongside world-renowned experts from Europe, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

His role as an educator extends locally and internationally, contributing to training programmes, conferences, and guideline development across the region.

Patient-Centered Innovation at the Core

Despite operating at the forefront of medical technology, Dr. Aljabiri remains firmly patient-focused. Every innovation he introduces is evaluated through the lens of safety, evidence, and meaningful clinical benefit.

For him, innovation is not about technology alone. It is about delivering better outcomes, reducing patient burden, and advancing standards of care responsibly.

Mentoring the Next Generation

Dr. Aljabiri is deeply committed to mentoring young doctors, believing that sustainable progress in medicine depends on education and leadership development. He encourages emerging clinicians to embrace challenges, maintain high standards, and remain patient with their growth.

This commitment extends personally as well, as he supports and mentors his daughter as she begins her own medical career.

Recognition and Continuing Legacy

Under Dr. Mazin Rasool Aljabiri’s leadership, Mediclinic Parkview Hospital’s gastroenterology department has received Center of Excellence recognition, and he has been individually honoured with multiple awards for excellence in endoscopy and clinical leadership.

A Vision for the Future

As he continues to expand artificial intelligence integration, advanced endoscopic oncology, and bariatric endoscopy, Dr. Mazin Rasool Aljabiri’s vision remains clear: to improve lives through innovation grounded in evidence, compassion, and excellence.

He is not just shaping the future of gastroenterology in the Middle East. He is contributing to its evolution on a global stage.
