Dr. Fatma Almulla, an Emirati scientist and visionary, has emerged as a leading figure in the Middle East’s healthcare and life sciences sector. Currently serving as the Head of the HELM cluster aims to attract global investments across biotech, pharma, Medtech and digital health, and drive research and innovation in life sciences. under the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), she is steering initiatives that aim to transform Abu Dhabi into a global hub for health, medicine, and wellness.

Her journey began with groundbreaking research in the United Kingdom, where she led efforts to design and develop a bioreactor for plasmid extraction. This innovation met the stringent quality standards set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for vaccine and gene therapy applications. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Almulla’s team at University College London collaborated with Oxford University and AstraZeneca to develop the AstraZeneca vaccine, showcasing her commitment to addressing global health challenges.

Recognized Among Forbes Middle East’s “30 Under 30”

In recognition of her significant contributions to science and technology, Dr. Almulla was named among Forbes Middle East’s “30 Under 30” list for 2023. At the age of 28, she was acknowledged for her role as Vice President of GKSD Healthcare Middle East and Chief Development Officer for the Gulf region. In these positions, she led strategic planning and development operations, including the establishment of six smart clinic hospitals in the Gulf region within a three-year timeframe. She has also won The Ruler of Dubai Government excellence award under the category of “Pride of UAE in the academic future fields” in 2022.
