The seventh edition of “Come On Kerala,” the Gulf region’s premier Indian trade, cultural, and entertainment expo, commenced on May 9, 2025, at the Expo Centre Sharjah. Organized by Gulf Madhyamam in collaboration with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the event runs until May 11 and offers a vibrant platform for business networking, cultural exchange, and family-friendly attractions.
Grand Opening Under Royal Patronage
Held under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the event underscores the emirate’s long-standing commitment to fostering international relations and economic cooperation. The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council, along with high-level dignitaries, influential business leaders, and key figures from the Indian diaspora.
Their attendance added gravitas to the event and reinforced Sharjah’s position as a cultural and commercial bridge between the UAE and India.

A Mega Confluence of Commerce and Culture
This year’s expo brings together over 300 exhibitors from government and private sectors in both the UAE and India. It showcases products and services across a wide range of industries including healthcare, tourism, education, retail, and interior design. Organizers are expecting footfall to surpass 275,000 visitors over the course of three days—a significant leap from previous editions.
The diverse business representation highlights the growing commercial ties between the two nations, especially in sectors that benefit from cultural familiarity and mutual trust. For many Indian entrepreneurs and companies, this event provides a launchpad into the wider GCC market.
Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI, emphasized that events like these are essential for economic diplomacy. He noted that “Come On Kerala” acts as a strategic gateway, enabling business communities from Sharjah and Kerala to form meaningful commercial alliances and long-term investment partnerships.
Cultural Programs Draw Massive Crowds
More than just a business expo, “Come On Kerala” is a celebration of the vibrant cultural tapestry of Kerala. Visitors are treated to more than 20 entertainment and cultural events, including performances by celebrated Indian film stars such as Mohanlal and Priya Mani. The entertainment lineup also features traditional Keralite dance, music, and theatrical performances, transforming the exhibition space into a cultural hotspot.
One of the main highlights is the “Kerala Village” replica, where stalls recreate the ambience of traditional homes, marketplaces, and landscapes of the state. It provides a nostalgic touchpoint for expatriates and a learning opportunity for Emiratis and other residents keen on exploring Indian traditions.
Food stalls offering authentic Kerala cuisine—ranging from Malabar biryani to appam and stew—have also become a massive crowd-puller. Family zones with games and creative activities for children ensure the expo appeals to visitors of all ages.
A Platform for Startups and Innovation
Entrepreneurs from both the UAE and India are utilizing the event to showcase new products and services with the hope of forging partnerships and expanding market access. Many startups are taking advantage of the opportunity to pitch ideas, interact with potential investors, and receive live feedback.
Tech innovations in fields such as health diagnostics, educational platforms, and AI-driven services were particularly popular among business attendees this year. The presence of government incubators and accelerators further supports the idea that “Come On Kerala” is not just a cultural showcase but a dynamic innovation hub.
Workshops and panel discussions focusing on entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and sustainable development are scheduled throughout the event, offering valuable insights to attendees interested in business trends and cross-border collaboration.
Sharjah as a Gateway for Indian Businesses
Sultan Mohammed Al Omrani, Commercial Director at Expo Centre Sharjah, expressed confidence in the event’s potential to deepen economic ties between the UAE and India. He pointed out that Sharjah’s strategic location, ease of doing business, and multicultural environment make it an ideal hub for Indian companies aiming to enter the GCC market.
Over the years, the Indian expatriate community in the UAE—particularly from Kerala—has played a significant role in the country’s economic development. “Come On Kerala” serves as both a tribute to that contribution and a forward-looking initiative to unlock new avenues for cooperation.
Jamal Bouzanjal, Director of Corporate Communication at SCCI, echoed this sentiment, stating that the expo offers a perfect setting for promoting Indian services and products while also inviting Indian investors to explore the immense opportunities available in Sharjah’s growing economy.
