World Economic Forum report says territory is at a ‘decisive moment’ in the battle to save the earth.

A recently released report from the World Economic Forum (WEF) has sounded a dire warning, indicating that climate change poses a severe risk to the livelihoods of over half a billion people in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) area.

Rapid Temperature Rise in MENA

The report underscores the alarming reality that temperatures in the Middle East and North Africa are increasing at a rate double the global average. 

This worrisome trend has the potential to affect the lives and well-being of a staggering 575 million individuals, with 70 percent of them residing in low-income countries within the region.

Decisive Moment in Climate Fight

The WEF’s report emphasizes that the MENA region finds itself at a pivotal juncture in the battle against climate change. 

The region faces impending challenges such as irregular rainfall, water scarcity, desertification, declining groundwater levels, and prolonged droughts. 

These environmental stressors have the potential to trigger a cascading effect, impacting vital sectors including agriculture, livelihoods, and even migration patterns.

The report underlines the pressing need for concerted efforts to mitigate and adapt to the challenges posed by climate change in the Middle East and North Africa.
