BAPS Hindu Temple Opens Doors to Public: Essential Etiquette Guidelines for Visitors

The BAPS Hindu Mandir, a stunning architectural wonder located in Abu Dhabi, has officially opened its doors to the public. This traditional Hindu stone temple, the first of its kind in the Middle East, serves as a sacred space for worship, rituals, and spiritual guidance. After the successful conclusion of the ‘Festival of Harmony’, which attracted a large number of pre-registered visitors, the temple now welcomes people of all faiths and backgrounds.

Volunteers and staff from BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha are stationed onsite to assist and guide visitors. However, before planning your visit, it’s crucial to familiarize yourself with the essential etiquette guidelines outlined below:

  1. Modest Attire: Visitors are requested to dress modestly, ensuring that their attire covers their shoulders and knees respectfully. Offensive designs or slogans on clothing are strictly prohibited, as are transparent, translucent, or tight-fitting garments. Entry may be refused if attire is deemed inappropriate.
  2. No Pets Allowed: Pets are not permitted within the temple complex, so visitors are kindly requested to leave their animals at home.
  3. No Outside Food or Beverages: Outside food and drinks are not allowed on the temple premises. Sattvic food is available onsite for those in need.
  4. No Drones: Drones are strictly prohibited unless prior approval has been obtained from local authorities.
  5. Unaccompanied Children: Children must be accompanied by an adult to enter the temple premises.
  6. Baggage Regulations: Purses and personal pouches are permitted, but larger bags, rucksacks, or backpacks are not allowed. Visitors are advised to leave these items in their vehicles.
  7. Weapons and Sharp Objects: Entry points are equipped with scanners and detectors to prohibit dangerous objects.
  8. Smoke-Free Zone: Smoking, vaping, and the use of tobacco products are strictly forbidden throughout the temple complex.
  9. Alcohol Prohibition: The consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited on the premises. Intoxicated individuals will be denied entry.
  10. Guides: Translation services are allowed only under the supervision of temple tour guides.
  11. Shoe Removal: Visitors are required to remove their shoes before entering the temple. Designated areas are provided for shoe storage.
  12. Mobile Phone Usage: While phones and pictures are allowed outside the temple, they are strictly prohibited inside. Phones must be switched off or set to silent mode.
  13. Wheelchair Accessibility: Facilities are available to accommodate wheelchair-bound visitors, ensuring a comfortable experience.
  14. Preserving Sanctity: Silence must be observed inside the temple, particularly during ongoing rituals.
  15. Artwork Preservation: Visitors should refrain from touching delicate stone carvings or artwork.
  16. Ritual Observance: Visitors are welcome to participate in rituals and prayers as a sign of respect.
  17. Respect for Deities: Visitors must refrain from touching sacred images or deities.
  18. Cleanliness: Littering or spitting on the premises is strictly prohibited. Trash should be disposed of in designated bins.
  19. No Vandalism: Writing or drawing on temple walls is strictly forbidden.
  20. Photography and Recording: Personal photography is allowed for non-commercial purposes, but commercial use requires prior permission.

By adhering to these guidelines, visitors can ensure a respectful and enjoyable experience at the BAPS Hindu Mandir.
