In celebration of UAE Union Day, AR Rahman, the acclaimed music maestro, and the Firdaus Orchestra, a 52-member all-female ensemble, delivered a special tribute to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Titled ‘Singing for the Children of Zayed,’ the concert at Burjeel Medical City’s circular atrium honored the visionary leader’s belief that children are the true wealth and strength of the nation.
A Touching Musical Journey:
Under the banner of ‘Firdaus Orchestra,’ mentored by AR Rahman and supported by Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, the all-female orchestra commenced the evening with a rendition of the national anthem ‘Ishy Bilady.’
Simultaneously, a giant glass pendulum in the atrium created a portrait of Sheikh Zayed, creating a poignant visual representation.
Healing through Music:
Conducted by Monica Woodman, the orchestra delivered a powerful performance featuring a curated list of songs, including ‘Danse,’ ‘Baroque Flamenco,’ ‘Ouarzazate,’ ‘Ecstasy of Gold,’ and ‘Spirit of Rangeela.’
The musical event aimed to provide solace and inspiration to patients, healthcare professionals, and visitors.
Musical Collaboration for Hope and Peace:
AR Rahman announced an upcoming collaborative song with Burjeel Holdings, which is dedicated to the UAE. The song aims to spread hope, peace, understanding, and joy as a tribute to those working selflessly.
Rahman expressed his desire for the song to bring healing and conveyed his prayers to all those in need at the hospital.
As the concert concluded, a glowing golden portrait of Sheikh Zayed was unveiled, symbolizing the completion of the musical tribute to the Founding Father.
Acknowledgment and Gratitude:
Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, founder and chairman of Burjeel Holdings, expressed gratitude to the country’s leaders, acknowledging the opportunity to serve the people.
The event also recognized the efforts of COVID-19 heroes and martyrs, standing as a tribute to their resilience and sacrifice.
