Remote-controlled ramps will let wheelchair users reach the waters without help.
Enhanced Beach Accessibility
Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has collaborated with Mubadala, the emirate’s sovereign investment entity, to introduce cutting-edge technology aimed at facilitating beach access for wheelchair users.
This initiative involves the installation of remote control-operated ramps designed by Greek company Seatrac, powered by solar energy, to enhance the independent enjoyment of the emirate’s beaches by people with disabilities.
Innovative Solution
The solar-powered tracks feature a specially designed chair that navigates users from the sand to the water, ensuring autonomy for individuals with disabilities.
Beach-goers can effortlessly utilize the rails of the ramp to lower themselves into the sea and return to the chair, enhancing their experience of enjoying the waters.
Implementation and Scope
Already operational at over 200 beaches in Greece, the Seatrac system will be introduced at prominent Abu Dhabi beaches, including Corniche Public Beach, Corniche Family Beach, Corniche Sahil Beach, Al Bateen Public Beach, and Al Bateen Ladies’ Beach.
This initiative aligns with the UAE government’s broader objective of fostering inclusivity and creating a more accessible society for individuals with diverse disabilities.
Shared Vision for Community Well-being
Dr. Salem Al Kaabi, Director General of Operational Affairs at the DMT, highlighted the partnership’s significance beyond collaboration, emphasizing their joint commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Abu Dhabi.
The initiative reflects a vision for a future characterized by community well-being, environmental sustainability, and inclusivity.
Commitment to Community Welfare
Homaid Al Shimmari, Mubadala’s Deputy Group Chief Executive and Chief Corporate and Human Capital Officer, emphasized the project’s alignment with their goals of elevating living standards across Abu Dhabi, emphasizing their dedication to improving the local community’s quality of life.
