Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), under the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has announced an advanced and comprehensive smart mobility plan for the upcoming Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The initiative aims to elevate the transport experience for thousands of spectators, ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient movement across Yas Island and surrounding areas.
The plan reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology, enhancing public mobility services, and positioning the emirate as a global leader in innovative transport solutions.
A Comprehensive Mobility Strategy for F1 Weekend
The smart mobility plan is designed to support the massive influx of visitors expected during the race week. ITC will deploy all available resources to meet transportation needs and maintain the highest international service standards.
Central Traffic Management for Seamless Movement
Traffic on Yas Island will be monitored and managed through the Traffic Management Centre. The system will control traffic signals, monitor congestion, and provide real-time updates through variable message boards. These updates will help drivers plan better routes and avoid delays.
The operations will be executed in coordination with multiple strategic partners, ensuring all agencies work together to maintain smooth road traffic across the event zone.
On-Ground Assistance and Emergency Support
To offer immediate help on the roads, ITC will deploy its Road Service Patrol teams. These teams will provide essential services such as fuel delivery, flat tire replacement, battery recharging, and emergency vehicle support.
Tow trucks will also be positioned across key locations to quickly remove broken-down vehicles, reducing disruptions and improving overall road safety.
AI-Powered Monitoring to Improve Safety and Flow
A significant highlight of the mobility plan is ITC’s adoption of AI-driven tools to enhance traffic management.
Drones to Track Traffic and Violations
ITC will use AI-powered drones to monitor traffic congestion, identify illegal stopping or parking, and detect vehicles blocking pick-up and drop-off zones.
The drones will transmit real-time images to the control center, where any violation or emergency can be addressed immediately. Using number plate recognition technology, the system will record incidents accurately while respecting relevant safety and privacy regulations.
Improved Taxi Monitoring for Better Service
Taxi parking areas will be monitored digitally to track occupancy levels, taxi availability, and demand patterns around event locations.
This monitoring ensures that taxis are available when needed and reduces passenger waiting times. All enforcement will follow regulatory guidelines to prioritize safety and maintain public trust.
Smart Mobility Showcased with Autonomous Vehicles
Abu Dhabi continues to demonstrate leadership in smart transport by integrating autonomous mobility into major events.
15 Autonomous Vehicles for Yas Island Travel
During the event, ITC will deploy 15 autonomous vehicles on designated routes across Yas Island from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm. These cars will transport spectators between key locations near the race circuit, offering a modern and seamless mobility experience.
All autonomous vehicles will be monitored through ITC’s newly launched smart platform, ensuring high performance, safety, and consistent service throughout the event.
Access to a Wider Autonomous Vehicle Network
Spectators and residents can also use the existing fleet of more than 30 autonomous vehicles connecting Yas Island, Al Saadiyat Island, Zayed International Airport, Al Reem Island, and Al Maryah Island.
These services are available through the TXAI and Uber smart mobility apps, making it easier for users to rely on driverless transport for safe and efficient movement.
Extensive Public Transport and Taxi Services
While smart mobility plays a major role, traditional public transport remains essential, especially during large international events like Formula 1.
82 Buses Dedicated for Spectators and Staff
ITC has allocated 82 public buses to serve both visitors and event organizers. The Yas circular bus service will operate continuously, connecting Yas Mall (Tryano Gate), Warner Bros. car parks, race circuit gates, nearby hotels, and entertainment venues.
This service ensures that spectators can move between major landmarks without relying solely on personal vehicles.
Around 3,000 Taxis for Event-Long Service
To meet the high demand, nearly 3,000 taxis will be deployed across Yas Island and surrounding areas. The ITC will supervise taxi movements before, during, and after the event, including for major entertainment concerts.
Two dedicated taxi pick-up and drop-off zones will be setup within the event district, alongside additional points near hotels and fireworks locations. Both regular taxis and ride-hailing platforms such as Uber and Careem will be integrated under the same mobility plan, ensuring reliability and consistent service quality. Special event tariffs will apply, ensuring transparency for passengers throughout the weekend.

Strict On-Site Monitoring and Visitor Support
To maintain consistent operations, the ITC will position supervisors and inspectors across high-traffic areas. These professionals will guide spectators toward approved parking zones, taxi stands, bus stops, entry gates, and shuttle points.
Inspectors will work closely with Formula 1 organizers and Abu Dhabi Police to respond quickly to any issues or delays experienced by visitors. This coordinated approach builds on ITC’s proven expertise in managing transport systems for large-scale international events.
A Legacy of Mobility Excellence in Abu Dhabi
Since the inception of the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, ITC has been a key strategic partner supporting transportation and traffic operations. These efforts are managed by skilled Emirati teams with strong experience in planning and executing mobility services for globally recognized events.
Beyond Formula 1, ITC continues to support a wide range of events across the emirate, contributing to both economic development and enhanced quality of life. By building an integrated transport ecosystem focused on safety, efficiency, and innovation, Abu Dhabi ensures that residents and visitors experience smooth and reliable mobility every day.
