Abu Dhabi Inaugurates First Certified Leap Engine MRO Centre in the Region

Sanad, based in Abu Dhabi, has opened the first certified Leap Engine Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) Centre in South Asia.

Abu Dhabi-based Sanad, a global aerospace engineering and leasing solutions leader owned by Mubadala Investment Company, has inaugurated the first certified Leap Engine Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) Centre in South Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. 

Spanning over 5,000 square meters, the world-class facility, part of the global Leap MRO network, enhances Sanad’s capabilities in maintaining the new-generation CFM International Leap-1A and -1B engines, powering Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft.

Landmark Agreement with GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines:

The inauguration follows a landmark 11-year shop visit offload agreement signed in partnership with GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines during the Paris Air Show in June 2023. 

The agreement expanded Sanad’s MRO services to include the advanced Leap engines, known for their exceptional reliability and fuel efficiency.

Accelerated Operations and First Leap Engine MRO:

Sanad showcased the first Leap engine inducted and completed the MRO process on a flydubai engine just four months after signing the agreement. 

The Leap Engine MRO Centre is set to receive over 450 Leap engines for maintenance services, contributing to the region’s aviation sustainability.

Investment in Advanced Machinery and Technology:

With an investment exceeding Dh100 million, Sanad has significantly enhanced its Abu Dhabi facility, focusing on advanced machinery, infrastructure, and technology. 

The improvements aim to strengthen the company’s engine MRO capabilities and provide high-level sustainment for regional operators.

Industry leaders, including GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines, commended Sanad’s commitment to excellence and speed in establishing the Leap Engine MRO Centre. 

The venture is expected to create job opportunities and contribute to reducing the carbon footprint associated with engine transportation.
